Obituary of Debera
Mrs. Debera Van Roekel, age 60, of Alton, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at her residence.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 8, at 1:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Debera Jean was born on December 11, 1957, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Norlan Joseph and Sandra Jean (Wilcox) Blumer. She was raised in Fort Dodge until her family moved to Sioux City when she was a teenager.

She was married to Steven Tipton on August 31, 1974, and later to Ricky Lee Van Roekel on December 19, 1998, in Orange City. Rick and 'Debbie' made their home near Alton.

In earlier years, Debbie was a delivery driver; and more recently, an abstract researcher. She enjoyed animals of all kinds and loved spending time with her grandsons.

Survivors include her husband of more than nineteen years; three children and their spouses, Niki and Kirk Wurscher, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Penny Tipton and Mark Sweisberger, and Matthew and Kyle Tipton, all of Sioux City; a step-son and his wife, Jacob and Ashley Van Roekel, of Alton; a step-daughter, Samantha Van Roekel, of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandsons, Traylor Wurscher, Maysen Wurscher, Justin Sweisberger, Braeden Sweisberger, Keegan Sweisberger, and Ethan Tipton; a granddaughter on the way; her mother, Sandy Gunnink, of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Dee and Bob Armbright, of North Sioux City, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Tricia Blumer, of Sioux City; her step-siblings and their spouses, Brian and Sue Gunnink; Galen Gunnink; Darin and Jolene Gunnink; and Jason and Susan Gunnink; her parents-in-law, Harlan and Janice Van Roekel, of Orange City; a sister-in-law and her husband, Nyla and Eric Zehr, of Victor; a brother-in-law and his wife, Carl and Wendy Van Roekel, of Hospers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Norlan Blumer, she was preceded in death by a sister, Darcy Blumer, in infancy; a brother, Daniel Blumer; her step-father, Frank Gunnink; and a nephew, Tony Van Roekel.
