DIED: January 19, 2013

Bert Kamies, age 90, of LeMars, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Plymouth Manor in LeMars, Iowa. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Rev. Craig Nissen officiating. Burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sheldon.

Bert Kamies was born on June 20, 1922 in Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of Aiko and Johanna (Solsma) Kamies and the youngest of nine children. He lived his youth in the Ashton and Melvin, Iowa area and attended country school in rural Ashton.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Bernice Van Maanen of Rock Valley, Iowa on November 2, 1949 in Middleburg, Iowa. They lived in Middleburg where Bert farmed on her parents' farm. In the 1960s, they moved to Sheldon where Bert hauled cream for Boyden Creamery (later AMPI). He also hauled eggs for Boyden Co-op. He then worked for Chase Lumber Company in Sheldon until he retired in 1985. Lucille (Blondie) passed away on May 19, 1994.

Bert was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sheldon. Bert and Lucille enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and taking bus trips to Las Vegas and Nashville and stopping at a few casinos on the way. Bert enjoyed visiting with people, drinking coffee, reading westerns and playing cards. He had a dry sense of humor and liked to tell jokes! He liked baking for bake sales and helping with Meals on Wheels.

In 2005, Bert moved to Plymouth Manor in Le Mars, Iowa. He enjoyed listening to Polka music. He especially enjoyed the birthday parties and celebrating Father's Day, when surrounded by his family. Bert was very content with life. He passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Plymouth Manor in Le Mars.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Aiko R. and Goldie Kamies of Boyden, IA; Janice Arguello of Wichita Falls, TX; Verna Seivert of Jackson, MN and Cindy Kamies of Le Mars, IA. Grandchildren and great grandchildren: Trisha and Cody Dummett and daughter, Kendra; Tammy and Phillip Hill and their children, Katlyn and Carter; Alan and Tamara Kamies and their children, Corey and Kaylee; and Rob Seivert. Sisters-in-law: Mary Kamies and Jeanette (Mars) Jager both of Orange City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; his parents; son, Delbert Kamies; daughter: JoAnn Kamies (stillborn); 3 brothers: John (Nellie) Kamies, Henry Kamies, Jake (Martha) Kamies; 5 sisters: Jen Wenzel, Tillie (Gerrit) Hector, Kate (Art) Molenkamp, Henrietta (Emery) Molenkamp, Bernice (Don) Seivert; and special friend Ruth Grave.
