August Peter LaCour, age 91, son of Fredrick and Laura (Kruger) LaCour was born April 14, 1921 on a farm 3 miles south of Sibley known as the LaCour Homestead.

August went to his heavenly home quietly in his sleep on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley.

In 1940, August graduated from Sibley High School. Six months following the bombing of Pearl Harbor on June 7, 1942, he joined the United States Navy, attending radio and radar school, when radar was a well kept secret. The Navy took him to the Philippines where he used his training repairing radios on fighter planes when they returned to base following a bombing mission.

On March 13, 1943, August and Phyllis Muilenburg were married while August was on leave from the Navy.

Upon his discharge from the Navy, August was involved in plumbing, heating, refrigeration, propane gas and management in Sibley, Hartley and Clara City, Minnesota.

This experience qualified him when he and his wife moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1974 to manage a 14 story, high rise apartment complex.

In 1991, August and Phyllis returned to Sibley to care for Phyllis' mother in her declining years.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years: Phyllis LaCour of Sibley, IA; two daughters: Barbara LaCour and Darrell Marble of Hartley, IA, Marcy and her husband Mark Gerdes of Montevideo, MN; six grandchildren: Kim DeSorbo, Tammie (Andy) Corbett, Allison Gerdes, Christina (Scott) Wavrin, Whitney Gerdes, and Patrick Gerdes; six great-grandchildren: Scout Corbett, Ashton Corbett, Noah DeSorbo, Sadie Warvin, Lilian Warvin, and Logan Wavrin; two nephews and three nieces.
