About this Cemetery.
This may be family lore but, the VAN TOL (Leendert van Tol) family farm north of
DOON IOWA was lost in the 1920s.
(Financial problems I was told by my mother in the 1970s)
A small SW corner of it, looking over the Rock river valley and Doon Iowa,
at that time was the cemetery.
This land was purchased by my grand father Sjoerd (Joe) Mulder on my mothers side,
who owned it until his death.
The land was tilled after he was unable to by his sons Edward (Bud) Mulder & Jan
(John) Mulder (I think Uncle John owned it also).
The town cemetery has grown on to more of the farm, and this family farm was sold
(when gram ma Alice Mulder died, or there abouts).
The Van Tols and the Mulders tend to be buried here.
Paul Lems, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Lems, of Rock Valley, died in the hospital at Hull, Friday afternoon, August 5, following an operation for appendicitis. He had been sick for two or three days and was taken to the hospital where an operation was performed.
The deceased lived on a farm near Doon, and had resided in that vicinity for about twenty years. He was born in Sioux County, near Middleburg, and had attained the age of thirty-two years and six months. When he was ten years old his parents moved to the Doon vicinity.
Mr. Lems was united in marriage on February 22, 1921 with Delia Van Tol, who with two children is left to mourn. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Lems, and two sisters, Marie and Jennie, and one brother Lambert Lems.
