C. Van Roekel of Sioux Center Reached Age of 95
Cornelis Van Roekel had reached the venerable age of 95 years and two months, by some years the oldest person in Sioux Center, when he succumbed on Friday due to his advanced age, passing on peacefully at his home here.
Born in the Netherlands, he was married in that country to Gertie Veldhuizen, and in 1892, 43 years ago the family came to this country, settling at Sioux Center. They farmed four miles west of Sioux Center for twenty-two years. Mrs. Van Roekel died 17 years ago, and two years later Mr. Van Roekel and his daughter moved to Sioux Center.
He is survived by four children, Mrs. Lane Van Tol of Doon, Henry Van Roekel, Maurice, Cornelia at home, Mrs. Henry Kroon, Sioux Center, also by 32 grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Two sons and one daughter passed on some years ago, preceding the death of their mother.
Always interested in the activities of his large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mr. VanRoekel remained mentally keen up to the time of his passing, and died literally "full of years." He was a member of the First Reformed church, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, following brief services at the home, Rev. Brunsting officiated at the services.
