Obituary of John Wanders
His German name was Jan

His parents were: Lubbert and Cato Van Ingen Wanders

John left Dutch homeland in 1897 for Borneo, then part of the Dutch East Indies. He came to America in 1902 entering Seattle, Washington, after two month trip from Borneo, he then made his way to Iowa. He bought a farm with brother Albert in 1904. In 1905 he was living with Albert's family. In 1909 John bought 160 acres on a patent deed from the USA , near his brother, Cornelis's farm in Lyman county in western South Dakota. He probably never lived there.

4-9-1912 he married Grace Van Roekel in Marion County, IA. In 1916 they sold their 160 acres in South Dakota for $2000. They moved to a farm near Tracy where they spent all their weded life. He was a member of the Tracy Reformed Christian church for 46 years, transferring his membership to Phoenix Christian Reformed Church in 1961.
