Elizabeth Van Grootheest was born Dec. I9, 1896 at Ede, the Netherlands. She came to the United States with her family in August 1920. She married John Vlastuin on Oct. 8, 1922, at Sibley, Iowa. They farmed in the Doon, Iowa, area until retirement in 1959, when they moved to Rock Valley. John died Jan. 7, 1976. Mrs. Vlastuin moved to the Valley Manor Nursing Home in September 1989.
Survivors include four sons: Fred, Doon; Gerrit, of Luverne, Minn.; Henry, of Worthington, Minn.; and Elmer, of Jenison, Mich.; three daughters: Mrs. Albert (Henrietta) De Bruin and Mrs. John (Tillie) Blom, both of Rock Valley; Mrs. John (Jeanette) Van Surksum, Doon; 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 17 great-greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Gertrude Van Holland, of the Netherlands; Mrs. Tom (Rika) Vanden Top, Rock Valley; an Mrs. John (Effie) Vande Street, Canton.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Netherlands Reformed Church, Rock Valley, with burial in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Mr. Vlastuin was born November 23, 1894 in The Netherlands. When a young man he came to the United States. He married Elizabeth Van Grootheest October 8, 1920 at Sibley. The couple farmed in the Doon area, and retired to Rock Valley in 1959.
Survivors include the widow; four sons, Garret of Beaver Creek, Minnesota, Fred of Doon, Henry of Worthington, Minnesota, and Elmer of Jenison, Michigan.; three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Henrietta) De Bruin of Hudson, South Dakota, Mrs. John (Tillie) Blom of Rock Valley, and Mrs. John (Jeannette) Van Surksum of Doon; 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother in The Netherlands.

Van Grootheest was born August 4, 1900, in Ede, The Netherlands. He attended school in The Netherlands and came to the United States at the age of 21. He married Gertie Roozenboom, October 31, 1925, near Fairview, South Dakota. The couple farmed near Fairview until moving to a farm near Rock Valley in 1948. They retired and moved into town in January 1976. He was a member of Netherlands Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Tena Van Muyden of Rock Valley, Grace Van Hill of Boyden, Wilma Van Roekel of Doon and Betty Piscitello of Canoga Park, California; four sisters, Elizabeth Vlastuin and Rika Van Den Top, both of Rock Valley, Gertrude Van Holland of The Netherlands and Effie Van De Stroet of Canton, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Gertie Roozenboom was born May 25, 1908, in Barneveld, the Netherlands. She moved to the United States when she was 11. She married Henry Van Grootheest on Oct. 31, 1925, in Fairview. He died on Nov. 4, 1988. They farmed near Fairview until farming near Rock Valley in 1948. They retired and moved to Rock Valley in January 1976. She became a resident of Valley Manor on Nov. 13, 1990.
Survivors include four daughters: Tena Van Muyden of Rock Valley, Mrs. Don (Grace) Van Hill of Boyden, Iowa, Mrs. Hans (Wilma) Van Roekel of Doon, Iowa, and Betty Piscitelto of Canoga Park, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, John of Hayward, Minn.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with burial in Valley View Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Van Grootheest was born July 26, 1906, in Ede, Holland, and attended school there. He came to the United States in 1920. He married Elizabeth Schelling June 2, 1938, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Fairview, S.D., and moved to a farm near Canton, S.D., in 1968. They retired in 1971 and moved to Rock Valley. Mr. Grootheest was a member of Netherland Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, five sons, Cornie of Sioux Falls, Tony of Hardwick, Minn., Wilbur of Hull, Lawrence of Rock Valley, and John of Oostburg, Wise; five daughters, Racy Van Grootheest of Rock Valley, Mrs. Marinus (Harriet) Vande Kieft and Betty Van Grootheest, both of Canton, Mrs. Greg (Rivina) Filipek of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Roger (Joann) Faulkender of Le Mars; two brothers, Gerrit and Henry, both of Rock Valley; four sisters, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Vlastuin and Mrs. Tom (Rika) Vanden Top, both of Rock Valley, Mrs. John (Effie) Vander Stroet of Canton and Mrs. John (Gertrude) Van Holland in Holland, and 24 grandchildren.

Elizabeth was born on August 26, 1912 near Lebanon, Iowa, daughter of Cornelius and Hendricka (Kastein) Schelling. She attended country school in the Lebanon area. Elizabeth had helped out on the family farm and also other area farms.
Elizabeth married John van Grootheest on June 2, 1938 in Sioux Center, Iowa. Together, they farmed in the Doon, Iowa and Canto and Fairview, SD areas. Upon their retirement in 1971, they moved into Rock Valley, Iowa. John died on July 12, 1985. Elizabeth moved to the Valley Manor nursing home in April of 1997. She enjoyed crocheting and loved cooking for her family.
Surviving relatives include her 5 sons, Cornie; Tony, Wilbur, Lawrence and John; 5 daughters, Tracy, Harriet and husband Marinus Vande Kieft, Betty, Rivina Filipex and Joann and husband Curtis Shaw of Coralville, IA; one brother, John Schelling of Sioux Center, IA; 2 sisters, Juliana Van Beek and Ella Marie Overeen both of Sioux Center; one sister-in-law, Edna Schelling of Sioux Center, 26 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, John; 2 sons, Gerrit and Henry; 2 sisters: Emmetje Van Bochove and Fredrieka Vander Brink; 6 brothers: Rochus, William, Lane, Bernard, Ralph and Paul; one grandson, Marlin.
