Minnie Van Roekel Westercamp passed away Sunday evening, November 26, 1944, at 7:45 following a lingering illness. She had been ill all summer and seriously ill for the past two months.
Minnie Westercamp was born November 1, 1877 in Mahaska County near Leighton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Van Roekel. Early in life she confessed her faith in Christ and became a loyal member of the church. She was now a member of the Stockport Methodist church where she transferred her membership when they moved to Stockport eight years ago.
On March 13, 1900, she was united in marriage to Herman Westercamp. To this union were born eleven children, nine of whom survive. She was always cheerful, quiet, and unassuming in her manner, ever thoughtful of others and never happier than when she could be of help to someone else.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Herman Westercamp, six daughters, Alice Storm of Keswick, Stevana Gilman of Dallas, Texas, Mabel Stem and Harriett Woepking of Burlington, Carrie Gregory of Salem and Jane at home, three sons, Lewis of Hedrick, John and Fred of Stockport, one sister, Mrs. Jane Van Zee of South Dakota, two brothers, A.A. and Tone Van Roekel of Pella, twenty-four grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and by an eleven year old son Warren, one sister, Mrs. Ollie Westercamp, two brothers, Gerrit and Henry Van Roekel, and her parents, Louis and Stevana Van Roekel.
Short services were held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the home with Rev. L.A. Burress of the Stockport Methodist church in charge. At 2:30 p.m. services were conducted from the Fremont Methodist church with Rev. Russell Reed officiating, assisted by L.A. Burress and Rev. J.W. Zerbe. She was laid to rest in the Cedar Township cemetery at Fremont, Iowa.
