Mrs. Ernest (Thelma Maude) Elscott, 70, of East Town Apartments, a former longtime resident of Sully and resident of Newton for three years, died early Saturday morning at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held today at the Johnson-Reese Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Emmert, pastor of the Killduff Methodist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Sully Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, Leukemia Research, will be accepted. She is survived by her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Elscott attended the Methodist Church, was active in the Jasper County Senior Citizens and for many years was active in the Apresmidi Club at Sully. She was an employe of the Maytag Co. for 18 years prior to her marriage.
The daughter of Charles E. and Rose Brown Palmer, she was born Feb. 6, 1907 at Maquoketa. She attended Grinnell schools and the Cedar Rapids Business College. She moved to Grinnell as a child and after her marriage Oct. 30, 1943 in Indianola resided on a farm near Sully until moving to Newton three years ago.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest (Lena) Elscott, 69, of Newton, a longtime Mingo area resident, were held Monday at the Mingo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Luers, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Graham Cemetery, north of Mingo. Memorial contributions to the Mingo United Methodist Church or the Cancer Society will be accepted. Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter handled arrangements.
She died Friday at the Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Survivors are her husband, and two sisters, Reva Morrison of Collins and Zelma Slavens of Indigo, Calif. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eldon Geisler, parents and a brother.
Mrs. Elscott, a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service, Martha Circle, Graham Cemetery Association and Mingo Senior Women's Club, had done volunteer for the Skiff Hospital Guild. She had taught school for two years before her marriage. Mrs. Elscott had resided for a number of recent winters in Arizona.
The daughter of Eli W. and Bertha Helen Skinner Borts, she was born Dec. 24, 1911 in Jasper County, attended Jasper County schools and was graduated from Mingo Community High School. She was married to Eldon Geisler June 6, 1932 at Mingo and to Ernest Elscott Aug. 5, 1978 at Nashua.
