Grace Steensma was born on October 2, 1920 in Doon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leendert and Gertrude (Van Roekel) Van Tol. She lived her youth in Doon where she attended the Christian School. She was united in marriage to Ike Steensma of Bigelow, Minnesota on January 1, 1942 at the Bigelow Christian Reformed Church.
They lived and farmed near Bigelow and later moved to Luverne, Minnesota where they farmed. In 1980, they retired and moved to Sheldon, Iowa. Ike passed away in 1989.
Grace enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening and flowers. She worked hard and was a woman of faith, which brought her through the trials of life. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Grace passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. Those left to cherish her memories are one sister, Kate Groendyke of Sheldon, IA; one sister-in-law, Ann Postma of Sibley, IA; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ike Steensma; her parents; 3 sisters, Della Lems, Gertrude Van Bemmel, Helen Faber; 5 brothers, Henry Van Tol, Cornelius Van Tol I, Cornelius Van Tol II, Mynard Van Tol, William Van Tol.
Mr. Leendert Van Tol passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 80 years, 6 months, 22 days. He was born in the Netherlands and later came to America. On February 9, 1900 he was united in marriage to Miss Gertie Van Roekel who now survives.
To this union 10 children were born and the following now survive: Mrs. Della Lems, Gertie, Mrs. Albert Van Bemmel; Henry, Cornie, all of Doon; Mynard, Sanborn; William, Luverne, Minn.; Helen, Mrs. Harry Faber, Sheldon; Katherine, Mrs. Neal Groendyke, Sanborn; and Grace, Mrs. Ike Steensma, Bigelow, Minn.
One son preceded him in death in infancy.
Further survivors are 28 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother also preceded him in death.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Gertie Van Tol, 86, of Doon, Monday, November 27, at the Christian Reformed church of Doon with Rev. John Elenbaas officiating. Burial was held in the Doon cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home. Mrs. Van Tol passed away Thursday, November 23, at the the Sioux Center Community hospital.
She was born October 1, 1875, in The Netherlands and came to America at the age of 16. On February 9, 1900, she was united in marriage to Leendert Van Tol at Sioux Center. He preceded her in death June 25, 1952.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Della Lems of Doon, Gertie (Mrs. Albert Van Bemmel) of Doon, Helen (Mrs. Harry Faber) of Steen, Minn., Katherine (Mrs. Neal Groendyke) of Sanborn, Grace (Mrs. Ike Steensma) of Luverne, Minn.; four sons, Henry of Doon, Cornie of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mynard of Sanborn and William of Ripon, Calif.; 28 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Mrs. Henry Kroon of Sioux Center and Mrs. Kate Van Roekel of Hawarden, and one brother, Henry Van Roekel of Sioux Center.
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Cornelius "Neal" Groendyke, Jr the son of Cornelius and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Groendyke, Sr., was born at Ocheyedan, Iowa on March 20, 1916. He lived his youth and received his education in the Ocheyedan area.
On February 23, 1941 Neal was united in marriage to Kathryn Van Tol of Doon at the Christian Reformed Church at Bigelow, Minn, and to this union two sons were born. Following their marriage he worked on a farm near Boyden and then they moved to Lincoln, Neb. where he was employed with the telephone company. He served his country in the Armed Forces from 1942-1946. After his honorable discharge, Neal and Kate began farming near Sanborn and continued to do so until the present time. Neal died at Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital at Primghar Iowa on Feb. 12, 1993 at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 22 days.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Sanborn, two sons and their wives: Keith and Judy of Sanborn, and Kevin and Anita of San Antonio, Tex., seven grandchildren, one brother John of Bigelow, Minn, and three sisters: Agnes Van Engen of Sanborn, Margaret Zylstra of Worthington, Minn., and Lucille Groendyke of Sibley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Ed and Mike, and two sisters: Minnie Weg and Nellie Vander Wilt.
Neal was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn where he had served as a deacon and he also belonged to Earl T. Conaway Post No. 318 American Legion of Sanborn. Neal will be remembered for the pride and delight he took in his grandchildren.
Funeral services were held February 15,1993 at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn with Rev. Kenneth Tenckinck officiating. Casket bearers were Ted Marra, Corwin Bootsma, Ray Schnurr, Jr.,Craig Camarigg, Harvey Post and Arnold Stallman. Military graveside services were conducted by Earl T. Conaway Post No. 318 American Legion, Sanborn, Iowa. Burial was In Rose land Cemetery, Sanborn,with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
