Funeral services for Andrew J. Steenhoek, 75, a longtime Prairie City area farmer, were held today, May 1, at the Prairie City First Reformed Church.
The Rev. Ralph Menning, retired Pella pastor, conducted services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
Mr. Steenhoek died Friday at the Des Moines General Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Verna; three sons, Stan of Runnels and Jim and Ken, both of Prairie City; six grandchildren; three brothers, Hubert of Pella, Henry of Colfax and Reuben of Prairie City; and two sisters, Bertha (Mrs. Gerrit) Beyer of New Sharon and Gardena (Mrs. John) Dykstra of Wapello.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and sisters.
Mr. Steenhoek was a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church.
The son of John and Dena Witzenberg Steenhoek, he was born March 15, 1913 in Monroe.
He was married to Verna Bensink in Pella.

Verna H. Steenhoek, 93, of Prairie City died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Iowa Lutheran Medical Center of Des Moines.
The daughter of Henry and Dena (Van Roekel) Bensink, Verna was born on February 17, 1915 at Pella. On February 17, 1939. Verna was united in marriage with Andrew Steenhoek at Pella.
Verna was a devoted homemaker and mother for her family. She especially enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts. Verna was very family and friend oriented, and loved when she could spend time with those she loved most. Verna was a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Stanley Steenhoek and his wife Matilde of Lucas; Jim Steenhoek and his wife Sue of Prairie City; Kenneth Steenhoek and his wife Claudia of Prairie City; six grandchildren, Allen Steenhoek; Duane Steenhoek; Jill Bellinghauser; Jodi Van Wyk; Jay Steenhoek; Amy Steenhoek; ten great-grandchildren, and one brother; Elvin Bensink and his wife Willa of Montezuma.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister; Ardellia Steenhoek.

Willa Bensink age 93 of Montezuma, Iowa passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Burial in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, Iowa.
Willa Mae De Bruin was the daughter of Cornelius John and Maria D Van Der Hoek De Bruin. She grew up near Leighton, Iowa with her sister and two brothers. Upon graduating from Pella High school in 1941 she worked as a bookkeeper with Farmers Union Coop.
She was married to Willis J. Dieleman on June 28, 1944 and they were blessed with three boys, Gail, Bruce and Randall.
After losing Willis in a tragic farm accident in 1963, Willa moved to Montezuma and began employment with the ASCS office. When that job was eliminated, Willa worked at the Montezuma State Bank, retiring after 31 years of service.
Willa was married to Elvin Bensink on February 8, 1975.
Following Willa’s retirement from the bank in 1995, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, vacationing and helping Elvin with his woodworking hobby and attending craft shows.
She also enjoyed doing chair caning and any kind of stitchery. Willa was very proud of her yard and enjoyed taking care of her beautiful flower garden.
She was a very faithful member of the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church for 60 years where she was once a Trustee, the Christian Education Director and the Superintendent of Sunday School. Willa also served 28 years as the church treasurer.
