Gijsbertus "Guy" Pluim, 78, Alton resident since coming here as a small boy died April 19 at the Orange City Hospital where he was taken the previous week. He had been in ill health for some years and for the past twenty years living with his brother Walter.
He was born July 13, 1884 at Ede, Netherlands, oldest child of the late Art and Hendrina (Thysen) Pluim. The family came to the United States in 1892 and to Alton shortly thereafter.
Surviving are three sisters and three brothers, namely Maggie, Mrs. George De Kruif, Orange City; Bertha, Mrs. Fred Vander Naald, Hospers; Gertrude, Mrs. William De Vos, Ireton; Peter, Paramount, California; John and Walt of Alton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie in infancy, Hattie at 4 years; Effie 17, and two brothers, Gerrit of Sioux Center and Bill of Alton.

Effie Pluim daughter of Mrs. A. Pluim passed away Monday morning. She had not been sick - attended church and Sunday school on Sunday - but the victim of quick consumption. She was born in Alton June 24th 1894 and was therefore sixteen years old. She was a lovable character and a favorite in her circle of friends.
Deceased is survived by her mother, three sisters and six brothers all of Alton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Reformed church and were conducted by Rev. De Jong. Interment was made in Nassau township cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is with the bereaved family.
The four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aart Pluim died at the home of her parents in this city on Monday night, after a year's lingering illness which suddenly developed into lung fever.
Funeral services were conducted at the house at one o'clock on Wednesday, by Rev. Lepeltak, after which interment took place in the city cemetery.
The parents have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.
Born at Alton April 16, 1898, he had reached the age of 59 years and was a member of the county bridge crew until last March when he was taken ill. He was a patient for a time at the Orange City Hospital but a month ago returned to Alton and was cared for in his niece's home.
He lived in Alton all his life with the exception of ten years, 1920-1930, when he was employed in California.
Surviving are five brothers and three sisters. He was the 8th child in a family of nine born to his late parents, Aart and Hendrina (Thysen) Pluim and is the first to pass on. Brothers and sisters include: Guy of Alton, Gerrit of Sioux Center, Maggie (Mrs. George De Kruif) of Hospers, Pete of Paramount, California, Bertha (Mrs. Fred Vander Naald) of Hospers, Gertrude (Mrs. William De Vos) of Ireton, and Walter of Anton.
Services were held Tuesday at the Van Etten Funeral Home in Orange City and at the Reformed Church in Alton, Reverend Sandee officiating. Music was by a male quartet: Bert Jensen, Bob Vander Schaaf, Pete Harmelink and Joseph Rexwinkel, Mrs. Bill Kroon accompanist.
Pallbearers were nephews: Arthur Pluim of Sioux Center, Arthur Guy Pluim of Alton, William De Vos of Le Mars, John Gerritsen of Inwood, Roger Steinstrom of Alcester, South Carolina and Vander Naald of Sanborn. Interment was in Nassau Township Cemetery.
