Hendrik Vonk and Wife Gerritje Vonk

VONK, HENDRIK AND GERRIT JE (BLEYENBERG)

Hendrik Vonk was born January 10,1866, in Ede, Netherlands.
Gerritje Bleyenberg was born March 15, 1866, in Ede, Netherlands.
Hendrik and Gerritje were married on May 31, 1890, in the Netherlands.

Two sons were born of this marriage: Henry Vonk was born on September 24, 1892, and Ben Vonk was born on September 21, 1895.
The family came to the United States in October of 1901, and they settled in Sioux County.
Son Henry passed away on January 22, 1913.
The Vonk's bought a farm five miles west of Sioux Center in 1913 and they farmed there until 1922. Ben attended Center Township country school.

Son Ben married Jennie Katze on January 25, 1922, and in March of 1922, Hendrik and Gerritje Vonk moved to Sioux Center to a house they built located at 152 1st Ave. S.E. Later they moved to a home located at 170 1st Ave. S.E.
They were members of the Protestant Reformed Church, and later transferred to the Second Christian Reformed Church (now known as Bethel) in 1922.
Gerritje Vonk passed away on August 27, 1951, at the age of 85 years, and Hendrik Vonk passed away on December 6, 1956, at the age of 90 years.
Son Ben continued on the farm west of Sioux Center. (See separate family story for Ben Vonk.)

Obituaries of Hendrik, Gerritje and son Henry

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Second Christian Reformed church for Mrs Henry Vonk who died last week Sunday at the age of 86 years. She had been ailing for several years due to old age and complications.

Survivors include her husband and one son Ben Vonk, eleven grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren, all living in the Sioux Center vicinity.

She is also survived by one brother Henry Bleyenburg in the Netherlands.

Mrs Vonk was born at Ede, Netherlands and came to this country with her husband and two sons in 1909. They settled on a farm when arriving and lived here ever since.

Final Rites Held For Henry Vonk, Sr.

Funeral services were held at the Bethel Christian Reformed church In Sioux Center at 2 p.m. Monday, December 10, for Henry Vonk, sr., 90, resident of this vicinity for 55 years, who passed away Thursday afternoon at the Sioux Center Community hospital. Services were conducted at the Ben Vonk home at 1:30 Immediately preceding the church services. Rev. Richard Venema officiated. Burial was made in the Sioux Center cemetery under direction of the Co-operative Funeral Service.

Mr. Vonk was born In The Netherlands January 10, 1866. He was united in marriage to Gerritje Bleyenberg May 31, 1890. In October, 1901, they came to America and settled near Sioux Center.

Preceding him In death were his wife on August 27, 1951; one son, Henry, age 20, on January 22, 1913; three sisters and one brother, two of whom died in infancy.

Surviving are one son, Ben, of Sioux Center, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one brother, Evert, who lives in The Netherlands.

Henry Vonk died very suddenly Wednesday of diabetes. The funeral services were held Friday morning.

He was an honest and upright young man, and respected by all.

He leaves a father, mother and one brother to mourn. They have the sympathy of all, in their bereavement.
