Ben Vonk was born September 21, 1895, in Ede, Netherlands. His parents were Hendrick and Gerritje (Bleyenberg) Vonk. The Vonks came to America in October, 1901, when Ben was six years old. They settled in Sioux County, and in 1913 they moved to a farm five miles west of Sioux Center.
Jennie Katze was born November 17, 1908, to George and Jennie Katze. Jennie lived in Sioux County in her youth and later moved to Estelline, South Dakota.
Ben and Jennie were married on January 25, 1922, at Estelline, South Dakota, and farmed on the Vonk farm five miles west of Sioux Center.

Henry Vonk - married Gertrude Hulstein. They are farming and living at Heron
Lake, MN.
George Vonk - married Henrietta Van Voorst. They farmed west of Sioux Center, but are now living in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Ben Vonk - married Winnie Van Regenmorter. They also farmed, and then moved to Rock Valley. Now they are living in Sioux Center.
Jeanette - married John W. Feekes. John owns a truck line and they lived in North Dakota for several years, but have now moved to rural Sioux Center.
Gerrit - married Jennie Koedam. He farmed for several years west of Sioux Center, but now lives at Lynden, WA.
Gertrude - married Elmer Van De Berg. They live and farm northeast of Sioux Center.
Peter - married Donna De Leeuw. They are farming west of Sioux Center.
Goldie - married Duane De Jager. They live in Maurice, Iowa, where Duane has a Repair Shop.
Katherine - married Harold Vande Kieft. They farm near Orange City, Iowa.
Dorothy - married Andrew Van Bochove. They farmed near Hull, Iowa, but have moved to Phoenix, AZ.
Eugene Arthur - married Judy Van Dyke. They are farming west of Sioux Center.
All of the children attended Center Township country school.
Ben and Jennie moved to 170 1st Ave. S.E. in Sioux Center, Iowa, in March, 1952. They were married 47 years when Jennie passed away on March 15, 1969.
Ben and Jennie were first members of the Protestant Reformed Church, and later transferred to Second Christian Reformed Church (now known as Bethel) in Sioux Center.
Ben was a Board member of the Sioux Center Hospital from the beginning of the Hospital. He also served on the boards of the Memorial Funeral Home and the Farmers Coop Society, and also on the Music and Building committees of Bethel Chr. Reformed Church.
Ben married Alice (Bonthuis) Vande Weerd on Jan. 2, 1970. They were active members of the Senior Citizen and Golden Age Clubs.
Ben and Alice moved into the Nursing Wing of the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center in Jan. 1989. Alice passed away on August 15, 1989.
There are 56 grandchildren and 66 greatgrandchildren. Total present at a family gathering was 184.

Funeral services were held yesterday ( Wednesday) at 2:00 p. m. at the Bethel Reformed church for Mrs. Ben Vonk, 65, who died at the Sioux Center Community hospital Saturday, March 15, after a lengthy illness. Services were conducted by the Rev. Louis Tamminga and burial was in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of the Cooperative Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vonk, the former Jennie Katze, was born November 17, 1903, at Ireton. She spent her youth and attended school at Estelline, S.D., where she married Ben Vonk, January 25, 1922. They spent several years farming west of Sioux Center. They have lived in Sioux Center the past 16 years.
She is survived by her husband and eleven children: six sons, Henry of Heron Lake, Minn., George and Gerrit of Ireton and Benjamin, Peter and Eugene Arthur of Sioux Center, five daughters Jeanette (Mrs. John W. Feekes) and Dorothy (Mrs, Andrew Van Bochove) of Hull, Gertrude (Mrs. Elmer Vande Berg) of Sioux Center, Goldie (Mrs. Duane De Jager) of Maurice; and Katherine (Mrs. Harold Vande Kieft) of Orange City; two brothers, Pete Katze, Porderville, Wis. , and Gerrit Katze, Breton, S. D.; four sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Kalsbeek, Estelline, S. D., Mrs. Frank Kalsbeek, Coarsegold, Calif. , Mrs. Al Elitzer, Lakewood, Calif., and Mrs, Helen Dolislager, Bellflower, Calif., 46 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a grandchild, Delores Vande Berg of November 4, 1963.

Alice Bonthuis Vande Weerd Vonk, 92, of Sioux Center, died Tuesday in the Sioux Center nursing wing. Services will be held Thursday in Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Norman Van heukelom officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
The former Alice Bonthuis, was born June 24, 1897 in Rock Valley, the daughter of Albert and Tena (Mulder) Bonthuis. She lived her youth in Rock Valley and attended school there. She married Henry J. Vande Weerd Jan. 12, 1915 in Rock Valley. He died Dec. 26, 1962 in Bellflower, Calif. On Jan. 2, 1970 she married Ben Vonk Sr. in Sioux Center.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Clarence H. Vande Weerd of Orange City, Chester L. Vande Weerd of Rock Valley and Franklin D. Vande Weerd of Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Henry J. Ben Vonk, Sr. 100, of Sioux Center, IA, and formerly a longtime resident Of the rural treton area, died on Wednesday, February 28, 1996, at the Sioux Center Community Health Center. Services were held on Monday morning, March 4,1996, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, the Reverend Robert Drenten officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Ben Vonk, 75, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Sioux Center, died Sunday, July 1, at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Carl Boersma and the Rev. Wayne Van Regenmorter officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Vonk was born March 4, 1926, to Ben and Jeanette (Katje) Vonk. He was raised in the Sioux County area and served in the armed forces from May 1945 to December 1946.
He married Winnie Van Regenmorter on March 7, 1952. He farmed near Sioux Center, Inwood and Rock Valley. After retiring from farming, he was employed, by Hope Heaven for 18 years where he worked with the handicapped and drove bus. He moved to Chandler, Arizona, in October 1994 and recently to Mesa. He was a charter member of New Life Community Church and recently a member of Bethany Community Church of Tempe, Arizona.
He enjoyed participating in Bible study groups, bicycling and playing pool and cards.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Dennis Vonk of Le Mars, Beverly Ohman of Ames and Virgil Vonk of Gilbert, Arizona; four grandchildren; four brothers, Henry of Mt. Lake, Minnesota, and George, Pete and Eugene, all of Sioux Center; and five sisters, Jeanette Feekes of Sun City, Arizona, Gertrude Van De Berg, Goldie De Jager and Kathy Vande Kieft, all of Sioux Center, and Dorothy Van Bochove of Sun City.

Virgil B Vonk, 57, of Gilbert, formerly of Rock Valley, went to meet his Lord on November 11, 2017 passing from a heart condition. After graduating from Rock Valley Community High School, he farmed on the family farm. He then served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. from 1984 to 1987. He worked at the Post Office for 29 years in Le Mars, Iowa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Indianapolis, Indiana; Thousand Oaks, California and Gilbert, Arizona. Virgil loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles and was a member of Bethany Community Church in Arizona and a devout Christian. He never hesitated to help someone out and will be remembered as having a kind heart.
Virgil is survived by his mother, Winifred Vonk, Sioux Center; siblings, Dennis (Gayle) Vonk of Le Mars, and Beverly (Dan) Ohman of Ames, Iowa; three nieces; one nephew; three grandnephews; and two grandnieces.

Winifred Vonk, 94, of Sioux Center, died Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.
Winifred (Van Regenmorter) Vonk was born on May 29, 1923, to Peter and Carrie (Bos) Van Regenmorter, in Sioux Center. She grew up on a farm and attended country school. She obtained her licensed practical nurse degree in Le Mars, Iowa.
Wynn married Ben Vonk on March 7, 1952. They farmed in Sioux Center for five years before moving to Bellflower, California, where she worked as a nurse's aide. She continued to work as a nurse's aide when they moved to a farm in Inwood, Iowa, and later to a farm west of Carmel, Iowa. Through the years, Ben and Wynn opened their home to several foster children. Wynn also worked in a clothing store, and as an aide and bus driver for Hope Haven.
After retirement, they moved to Chandler and Meza, Arizona. She was married to her husband, Ben for 49 years. In 2003, Wynn moved to Sioux Center. She enjoyed being involved in women's ministry and hospice. Wynn loved to entertain and lived life to the fullest. She often remarked how good God was to let her live so many years.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Gayle) Vonk of Le Mars, and Beverly (Dan) Ohman of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren, Allison (Jay) Rolfes, Ashley (Mike) Jacobsma, Jeffrey (Pearl) Ohman and Jennifer (Eric) Roggatz; five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron Rolfes, Keegan and Karter Jacobsma and Paige Roggatz; and a brother, Bill (Aldine) Van Regenmorter of Sioux Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Carmel Reformed Church of rural Rock Valley, Iowa, for Jeanette Feekes, 81, Sioux Center, Iowa, who died Sunday, March 15 at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden, Iowa. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Jeanette was born Sept. 27, 1927 on a farm near Sioux Center to Ben and Jennie (Katze) Vonk. She received her education at a country school. She married John Feekes on Feb. 4, 1948. They began farming west of Sioux Center. Four years later they bought a farm near Carmel, where they farmed for 24 years. In 1977 they moved to Rugby, where they lived for the next 10 years. In 1987 they returned to the Sioux Center area. They lived in Arizona from 1996 to 2007.
She was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, where she was involved in the women's circle. While living in Rugby she was a member of First Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband; seven children, Harlen Feekes, Modesto, Calif.; Nelva Petersen, Dunlap, Iowa; Mike Feekes, Irene, S.D.; Doug Feekes, Litchfield, Ariz.; Cheri Helfenstein, Mons, Belgium, Tami Feekes-Benedict, Marina, Calif.; and Verlyn Feekes, Elbert, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Vonk, Sioux Center, and Eugene Vonk, Ireton, Iowa; three sisters, Gertrude Van De Berg, Sioux Center; Kathy Vande Kieft, Orange City, Iowa; and Dorothy Van Bochove, Sun City, Ariz.

John was born Oct. 8, 1928 near Carmel, Iowa, to William and Cornelia (Hulshof) Feekes. He married Jeanette Vonk on Feb. 4, 1948. After their marriage, they farmed west of Sioux Center for a few years. They purchased a farm near Carmel, feeding livestock and operating a dairy. John eventually became involved in trucking and dealing livestock. In 1976 they sold the farm and moved to Rugby, where they operated Feekes Trucking and Cattle Company. In 1986 they moved back to Sioux Center and continued the business until retiring in 1992. After retirement they lived in Sioux Center during the summer and Arizona during the winter. Jeanette died on March 15, 2009. Over the years John was a member of Carmel Reformed Church in Iowa and First Lutheran Church while living in Rugby.

Whatcom County resident, Timothy J. Vonk, age 51, died suddenly on Thursday, January 24, 2008 in Custer, WA.
He was born September 5, 1956 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Gerrit and Jennie (Koedam) Vonk. In 1972, he moved with his family to Lynden where he was an outstanding Lynden High School football player; graduating in 1976. Tim was a long-haul truck driver for White Buffalo and other trucking companies. One of his greatest joys was spending time with family and friends.

Visitation hours will be Thursday, Jan. 31, 4 to 8 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Feb. 1, 1:15 pm in Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 2:00 pm memorial service at Second Christian Reformed Church, 8th and Front St. in Lynden.

Gerrit Vonk, 70, longtime Sunnyside resident, died Sunday, December 5, at his home in Sunnyside, Washington. Services were December 9 at the Chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Burial was in the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.
Vonk was born July 2, 1929, at Sioux Center, the son of Ben and Jenny (Katje) Vonk. He spent his early years and received his education in Sioux Center. He married Jennie Koedam June 12, 1951, at Rock Valley. The couple made their home in Sioux Center. He entered the U. S. Army in 1952 and served until 1954. Following his military service, the couple continued to live in Sioux Center until 1972, when they moved to Lynden, Washington, and in 1983 to Sunnyside. His wife died November 6, 1992. He had been a self-employed dairyman, farmer and worked in construction. He made Sunnyside his home until the time of his death. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Peter Vonk, 73, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 11, at the family farm. Services were at 10 a..m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Vonk was born April 16, 1933, near Sioux Center, one of 11 children born to Ben and Jennie (Katze) Vonk. He was raised on the family farm near Sioux Center and attended country school at Center 4. He went on to graduate from Sioux Center High School with the Class of 1951.
He married his high school sweetheart, Donna De Leeuw at nearby Middleburg on December 16, 1952. He served two years in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He was stationed stateside in California and Ft. Lewis, Washington. After receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Sioux Center where the couple began their own farming operation west of town. He loved farm life and was devoted to his family. In 1991, he retired and they moved to their home in Sioux Center but his work ethic brought him out to the farm every day to assist his sons. He was an active member of First Reformed Church, serving as a deacon, and also served three terms on the board of directors of Memorial Funeral Home.

Bernard Duane De Jager, 66, of Maurice, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Maurice First Reformed Church, with the Rev. Wayne Sneller officiating. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Mr. De Jager was born June 17, 1934, near Maurice, the son of Rhodus and Henrietta (Schuller) De Jager. He graduated from Center Township Country School in 1948, and from Maurice High School, where he played baseball, basketball and sang in a quartet and choir. He was then employed with Slagle Lumber Co. in Alton, Iowa, for more than four years.
He married Goldie Vonk on June 15, 1956.
He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Chafie, Ark. He graduated from aircraft maintenance school as an instructor, teaching aerodynamic and general maintenance on helicopters. He received his discharge in 1958. He farmed near Rock Valley, Iowa, and was employed as a welder with Kooiker Manufacturing Co. in Hull, Iowa.
In 1968, the couple moved to Maurice, where he was employed as a night assistant to the engineer with Dubuque Pack in Le Mars, Iowa, for 11 years. He opened Green Acres Repair and Manufacturing in 1970, and operated a hardware store. He was a member of Maurice First Reformed Church and served on the city council. He belonged to Society of Manufacturer Engineers, Iowa Blacksmiths. He was a certified welder and had a Class A Engineer title. He was also active in community affairs. He was named in Who's Who Worldwide in 1992, 1993,1994 and 1995 as a selftaught professional engineer. He enjoyed singing.

Goldie De Jager, 72, of Sioux Center, formerly of Maurice, died Thursday, November 13, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A funeral service was Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Maurice First Reformed Church with the Rev. Wayne Sneller and the Rev. Mark Haverdink officiating. Interment was in Sherman Township Cemetery of rural Maurice.
Mrs. Dejager was born June 26, 1936, to Ben and Jennie (Katze) Vonk on a farm near Sioux Center. She received an education through the eighth grade at country school, Center No. 4. She met B. Duane De Jager in January of 1956, and five months later they were married in Sioux Center on June 15, 1956. They lived in Ft. Rucker, Alabama, for two years while he was in the Army. From 1958-1968 they farmed near Rock Valley and then settled in their home in Maurice. The couple were happily married for 44 years he passed away on January 21, 2001.
She then moved to Royal Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. She was a member of Maurice First Reformed Church. She enjoyed selling Avon, Watkins and Fuller Brush products. She loved her family, enjoyed traveling, embroidery work and a good game of cards.
Survivors are five daughters, Rhonda De Jager of Orange City, Jeanne and Dennis Van Roekel of Maurice, Roxanne and Jason Mars of Orange City, Rachalle and Evan Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center, Renietta and Charles W. Obrecht of Harlan; 13 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Chris Vonk of Sioux Center and Eugene and Judy Vonk of Ireton; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and John Feekes of Hawarden, Gertrude and Elmer Van De Berg of Sioux Center, Kathy and Harold Vande Kieft of Orange City and Dorothy and Andy Van Bochove of Sun City, Arizona; three sisters-in-law, Winn Vonk and Donna Vonk, both of Sioux Center, and Gertrude Vonk of Mountain Lake:, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters inlaw, Henry Vonk, Ben Vonk, Pete Vonk, Gerrit and Jennie Vonk and Henrietta Vonk.
The De Jager family prefers memorials be directed to Royal Meadows Care Center Bell Choir.

Henrietta Vonk, 75, of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, January 27,1999, at Sioux Center Community Health Center. Family services were at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, January 30, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Graveside services were at 10:20 a.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethal Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with Rev. Greendyke officiating.
Mrs. Vonk was born August 9, 1923, near Alvord, the daughter of Jacob and Jeanette (Vande Hoef) Van Voorst. She married George Vonk on July 23, 1943, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Ireton. They retired and moved into Sioux Center in 1986. She was employed with Sioux Center Nursing Facility for 13 years. They also wintered in Arizona. She was a member of Doras Society and Heritage Reformed Church in Hull. She enjoyed baking, handiwork and reading.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Bennie J. and his wife, Kathleen, of Ireton, Larry, of Maurice, Glenn, of Fairview, SD, and Bruce and his wife, Sue, of Sioux Center.; three daughters and their husbands, Jan and Ken Faber and Sharon and Jim Boeyink, all of Sioux Center, and Bonnie and Roger Fedders, of Ireton; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Hoogendoorn and Jeanette and her husband, Bill Van Den Top, all of Rock Valley; two brothers and their wives, Maurice and Lucy, of Rock Valley, and James and Greta, of Sioux Center; and three sisters-inlaw, Jennie Van Voorst, of Rock Valley, Alice Van Voorst, of Sioux Center, and Jenette Van Voorst, of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Sam, John, Henry, William, Harry and Jake; two sisters, Marie and Henrietta in infancy; and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia. Pallbearers were Craig and Michael Faber, David, Brent, Kris, Kevin and Ben Vonk, Adam and Noah Fedders.
