Marleen Canfield, age 75, of Fairfax passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at the New
Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, Minnesota.
Memorial Service will be Monday, January 6, 2020, 10:00 A.M. at Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church in Fairfax with interment in Memorial Gardens in Slayton.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be Sunday, January 5, 2020, from 1:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax and will continue one hour prior to the
service at the church on Monday.
Marleen Kay Canfield was born on November 17, 1944, in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Henrietta (VanRoekel) Vos. Marleen was baptized as an infant at the Reform Church in Edgerton, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at the Reform Church in Worthington, Minnesota. She received her education in Chandler, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Chandler High School Class of 1962.
On July 23, 1972, Marleen was united in marriage to Lorenz Canfield at the American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple resided in Slayton, Minnesota. She was a loving homemaker and mother. Marleen and Lorenz were blessed with nine children. Marleen and Lorenz shared 46 years of marriage until Lorenz passed away on May 2, 2019.
Marleen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax and the Bible Study group. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary #205 in Fairfax. Marleen delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at Ruby’s Pantry in Redwood Falls. Marleen enjoyed reading, fishing, playing games, and camping. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Marleen passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm at the age of 75 years. Blessed be her memory.

Marlene was preceded in death by her Parents, Henry and Henrietta Vos; Husband, Lorenz Canfield; Daughter, Tammy Lynn Canfield; Son, Mark Edward Canfield; Brothers, Harold Vos and Larry Vos.
Lorenz Ray Canfield was born on August 5, 1938, in Adrian Township, Nobles County, Minnesota. He was the son of Howard and Martha (Stumpf) Canfield. Lorenz was baptized as an infant at American Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. He received his education in Upsala, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Upsala High School Class of 1956. He furthered his education taking a Claim Adjuster Class in Willmar, Minnesota, Boiler Maintenance Class in Jackson, Minnesota, and a Welding Class at Hutchinson Area Vocational Technical School. On April 23, 1957, Lorenz entered active military service and served in the United States Army. He received the Sharp Shooter (Pistol) Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Lorenz was Honorably Discharged on April 17, 1959.
On October 24, 1959, Lorenz was united in marriage to Karen Piepgras. On July 23, 1972, Lorenz was united in marriage to Marleen Vos at the American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple resided in Slayton, Minnesota. Lorenz was employed as a bartender. Lorenz and Marleen were blessed with nine children. Lorenz and Marleen shared 46 years of marriage.
Lorenz was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax, the Fairfax American Legion Post #205 and the Fairfax VFW Post #8459. He was an active member of the Fairfax Honor Guard. Lorenz enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Lorenz passed away as a result of a car accident near Dassel, Minnesota, on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the age of 80 years. Blessed be his memory.
