Obituary of Evert
Evert Ravenhorst, 78, of Lexington died Sunday morning at Stonewall Jackson Hospital.
He was born in Veenendaal, Netherlands, Oct. 20, 1888, the son of the late Hendrik Van Ravenhorst and Bernadine Davelaar Ravenhorst, who died in 1959.
Mr. and Mrs. Ravenhorst came to the United States in 1912 on a trip and decided to remain in this country. They first settled in Iowa and came to Lexington in 1924. After being associated for a short time with the Lexington Baking Co., he joined the staff of the VMI mess hall in 1927 and was in charge of the baking at VMI until his retirement in 1959. Since that time he had been employed at Leggett's Department Store.
He served on the board of trustees and as financial secretary of Trinity Methodist Church, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by a daughter, Miss Albertina Ravenhorst and a son, Henry L. Ravenhorst both of Lexington and five grandchildren.
The Rev. Albert Schrader and the Rev. Harvey Ashby conducted a funeral service at Trinity Methodist Church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery.
