Obituary of Maria

Maria Pitlo, 98, of Hull died Sunday, November 14, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral service was Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull with the Rev. G. M. De Leeuw officiating. Interment was at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Mrs. Pitlo was born July 17, 1906, in the Netherlands, the daughter of Johannes and Jantje (Van Laar) Van Roekel. She was raised in the Netherlands. On November 27, 1940, she married Johannes Marinus Pitlo Sr., in the Netherlands. In 1948, They came to the United States and settled in Northwest Iowa. In 1953, they moved to Hull, where they owned the Hull Bakery, retiring in 1963. He died December 22, 1990, in Hull, after 50 years of marriage.

She continued to live in Hull and also spent time with her children. In June of this year, she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center. She was a homemaker and also a full partner with her husband in the operation of their bakery. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Johannes Marinus "John" and Vivian Pitlo Jr. of Bellevue; her daughter, Janice Keller of Sioux Falls; two grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Aarsen of Orange City. She was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
