Obituary of Gijsbert
Gysbert Van Engelenburg, Jr. age 88 died as the result of an accident, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at Vandalia Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The family will be present from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the City of Runnells Senior Center and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Gysbert and Jennie (Klyn) Van Engelenburg Sr., Gysbert was born on March 18, 1921, in Jasper County, Iowa. He lived and farmed in the Runnells and Prairie City area his entire life. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Elizabeth Vander Werff on January 9th, 1942, at her parent's home and was married for 56 years. His wife and parents preceded him in death.

Gysbert was the father to three children, Betty (Ralph) Busby of Runnells, Gary (Vicki) Van Engelenburg of Indianola and Debbie (Michael) Potter of Runnells; grandfather to 12 grandchildren and great grandfather to 17 great grandchildren. He was a brother to Cornelia Danks of Des Moines and an uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He loved being able to take care of his yard and enjoyed fishing with his companion, Mercedes Lane. He enjoyed listening to books on tape, keeping current on daily markets and news, and socializing at the Runnells Community Center.
