Thank you for your letter we received in December 2009. We gladly forward you the following images of the van Roekel family and descendants. I am indeed related to Prof Petrus Serton who was married to Eduarda van Roekel. They came to South Africa in 1920 where he started the Department of Geography at the University of Stellenbosch. Eduarda was suffering from TB and after her recovery she was advised by her doctor to go to sunny South Africa. They were so happy that they decided to stay!

They had 3 daughters, Wilhelmina, Gerdien and Warda, and one son Pieter. I was married to Pieter in 1958, and as my names are Wilhelmina Juliana they were very proud. My maiden name was Schoeman and I grew up in a small town, Pearston, in the Karoo in South Africa.

As Eduarda had only one brother Johan, (who was a cowboy in America and had no children), we named our third son Johan Eduard.
