Mrs. D. H. (Florence) Schalekamp, 66, died at 2 a.m. Sunday in Cherokee following a lingering illness. Since spring of 1965 she had lived with her husband at Spirit Lake but prior to this had lived in Cherokee.
Born at Wausa, Neb. on Nov. 16, 1902, she was married to D. H. Schalekamp on April 4, 1925 at Omaha, Neb.
A graduate of Morningside College, she had taught Special Education in the Marcus and Larrabee schools.
In 1965, she and her husband went to Honduras, Central America, where she was in charge of Utila Methodist College.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, PEO, Carnation Chapter NO. 165, OES, and the Iowa Education Association.
Surviving are her husband, Dick; her mother, Mrs. O. P. Mueller, Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. D. T. (Lucile) Scothorn, Cherokee and Mrs. Robert (Jean) Kunkel, Kearney, Neb.; and two sons, Neil Schalekamp of Seattle, Wash., and Paul, Minneapolis, Minn.; and six grandchildren. One brother, Lewis Mueller of Pocahontas and three sisters, Mrs. L. H. Wehlage of Bradenton, Mrs. Charles Bidwell, Martinsville, Ind., and Mrs. W. R. Blackburn of Marietta, 0., are other survivors.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. O. P. Mueller in 1943 and one sister, Grace Johnson in 1966.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Dr. V. V. Schuldt officiated and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Boothby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
