Obituary of Hester

Hester Christensen, age 81, of Lake Madison, died May 10, 2018 at the Madison Care & Rehabilitation Center. At this time, Hester’s wishes are being honored by having no memorial service.

Hester Gertrude VanToll was born March 30, 1937 in Doon, Iowa to Henry & Esther (Halbersma) VanTol. She graduated from Doon High School.

She married Harold Oldenkamp and they made their home in Flandreau. For many years, Hester worked as a secretary for Minnegasco until her retirement. Later in life, she married Daryl Christensen and they made their home in Flandreau, later on they moved to Dell Rapids for a while and eventually settle on the north side of Lake Madison. Hester was an avid Twins fan and she loved to go fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Daryl of Lake Madison; two children, Kathi (Dave) Bennett of Flandreau and Randy (Ardis) Oldenkamp of Mitchell; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Hester was preceded in death by her parents and 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Oldenkamp & Blaine Bennett.
