Gerrit Beyer, for many years a resident of the Alton-Orange City vicinity, died Wednesday, Jan. 27 from a heart attack at his home in Whittier, Calif. He was sixty years of age. Funeral services were held at Whittier Saturday.
He was the son of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Beyer of Orange City. He married May Pas and they were the parents of four children, of whom two survive with their mother: Helen, Mrs. Chester Dean of Manhattan Beach, Calif. and Kenneth of Claremont, Calif.
Glenn, older son of the couple, was taken prisoner at Corregidor at the outbreak of World War II, and was believed to have been on the Japanese prison ship which was bombed and sunk some time later.
Barbara, 9, died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident 12 years ago.
The Beyers sold their fine farm on Highway 10 to Willard Foreman of Alton three years ago and moved to Whittier to be near their children.
Survivors include three grandchildren and five sisters: Mrs. Edward Franken and Miss Bertha Beyer of San Diego, Calif.; Gertrude, Mrs. Ben Masselink of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Genevieve, Mrs. Wm. Van Steenbergen of Grand Rapids, Mich, and Mrs. Hattie Vogelaar of Orange City.

Services were conducted in the Presbyterian church with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Beyer was born in Orange City on March 30, 1892.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Hull; two sisters, Mrs. Molly Goodrich of Sioux City and Mrs. Ed Schreur of Orange City; three brothers, John Pas, of Laguna Hills, Calif., Harold Pas of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Wesley Pas of Sioux City.

Three Children In Auto Accident , One Dies
Three children of Mr. and Mrs.Gerrit Beyer of Orange City were involved in a serious automobile accident last Friday night at six o'clock, when James Grotenhuis attempted to pass the Beyers car driven by Kenneth Beyers, 18, on the Alton highway, one mile east of the Orange City Junior College. Kenneth attempted to turn into the Gerrit Beyer driveway when Grotenhuis collided with their car. Both cars were travelling east.
Barbara Beyer, 11 years old was critically injured and died at 1:30 in the De Bey hospital in Orange City,
Helen Beyers, 16, suffered a broken back.
Although Kenneth was thrown clear of the car, he suffered no serious injuries.
The Beyers children were returning from Orange City where they had attended Catechism classes.
The funeral of Barbara Beyer was held on Tuesday, 1 o'clock at the Beyers home and 1:30 at the Trinity Church in Orange City. Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Beyers are the parents of one older son, Glen, who is in the Phillipine Islands with the U.S. Army. Mrs. Beyer will be remembered as the former May Pas of Orange City.
