Obituary of Jeanette:

Jeanette Ver Steegh, 93, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at White Oak Estates in Oskaloosa. She was born Saturday, May 4, 1918, near Oskaloosa, the daughter of Dick and Jennie DeBruin Van Ommen. She graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1936. Following school, Jeanette taught country school in Mahaska County for 3 years.

On Mrch 21, 1940, she was united in marriage to Floyd Ver Steegh in her parent's home near Oskaloosa, and Floyd died on June 2, 2000. Following her marriage, she stayed at home to raise her family. She was a member of Central Reformed Church and cared for the church library for many years. She was also a member of Ladies Aid, Ladies Circle and taught Vacation Bible School. She will always be remembered for making everyone feel welcome in her home, and enjoyed cooking, cannig, baking, crocheting, reading and gardening. Jeanette also enjoyed spending winters in Florida and always looked forward to entertaining family.

She is survived by her son and his wife: Richard and Shirley Ver Steegh of Oskaloosa; two daughters and their husbands: Lois and Andy van Utrecht of New Sharon and Phyllis and Phillip Van Utrecht of Oskaloosa; two daughters-in-law: Vivian Ver Steegh of Oskaloosa and Marjorie Ver Steegh of Eddyville; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law: Ray(Wilma)Ver Steegh of Oskaloosa.

Besides her husband, Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Howard and Robert Ver Steegh and three sisters: Dorothy Uitermarkt, Wilma Van Roekel and Bernice Van Roekel.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2011, at 10:30 am at Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Gloria Nollen officiating. There will be a Family Prayer Service Friday at 10:15 am in the fellowship hall in the church. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Thursday after 12 noon, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 pm to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Central Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
