Obituary of Evelyn:
Evelyn Elizabeth Dunnick passed quietly on December 21,2015 at the Courtyards of Granbury. Evelyn was born on October 23, 1922 to David T. Ver Steegh and Edith E. Ver Steegh of New Sharon, Iowa. She graduated from Central College of Pella, Iowa.

Evelyn married Arthur John Dunnick on June 1, 1944. They had four children; Rodney David and wife Joanne of Granbury, Texas; Wesley Arthur and wife Sarah of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Thomas Lyle and wife Liz of Madison, Wisconsin; and Luanne Elizabeth Taylor and husband Mike of Davenport, Iowa. She was preceeded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her children, her brother Edward Theodore Ver Steegh, and sister Anita Younkin and four grandchildren.

Evelyn and Arthur Dunnick married in Tucson, Arizona during World War II. After the war, they returned to Iowa and started a family. They lived in New Sharon, Iowa as farmers. In addition to raising a family, Evelyn taught business classes at the New Sharon High School.

In 1960 the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Arthur worked for Collins Radio Company. Evelyn taught for the Cedar Rapids School district at the Junior and Senior high levels until she retired.

Evelyn was a member of the Embroiders Guild and created many unique pieces. After retirement Evelyn and Arthur returned to the New Sharon area during the summers and Sun City, Arizona during the winters. They later moved to Sun City year around where they enjoyed the warm weather. After the death of Arthur, she moved to the Courtyards in Granbury, Texas near her son Rodney.

Evelyn was a member of the Granbury First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa. Viewing will be from 9:30AM - 10:30AM December 30, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with a service at 10:30AM. A lunch will be provided following the service. Memorial gifts can be sent to the Alzheimer Association or Central College in Pella Iowa.

Arthur Dunnick, 86 of Sun City, Arizona passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007 in Peoria, Arizona. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, June 17, 2008 at the New Sharon Friends Cemetery. Harden Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur John Dunnick, son of Lane and Dina Dunnick was born March 4, 1921. He married Evelyn Elizabeth Ver Steegh of New Sharon on June 3, 1944. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the Army Air Core.

After the war Arthur and his family lived near New Sharon and farmed until 1960. They then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and he worked as an Electronics Technician for Collins Radio until he retired in 1986.

Arthur and Evelyn lived in Sun City, Arizona from 1996 until his death. They were members of Lakeview United Methodist Church.

He was survived by his wife, Evelyn; four children; Rodney of Granbury, Texas; Wesley of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Thomas of Madison, Wisconsin; Luanne Taylor of Davenport, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn.

Obituary for Ted Ver Steegh

Ted Ver Steegh, 95, of Oskaloosa and formerly of New Sharon, passed away Thursday evening, October 8, 2020, at Mahaska Health in Oskaloosa. Edward Theodore (Ted) Ver Steegh, son of David Theodore and Edith Elizabeth (Cope) Ver Steegh, was born on January 6, 1925, in New Sharon, Iowa. He served in the United States Army in the Asian-Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged December 1946.

He married Bertha Mae Criss, August 14, 1947; they made their home in rural New Sharon, where Ted farmed and was a Master Swine Producer. He retired from farming in 2008 but remained living on his farm until 2014, when he moved to Oskaloosa.

He was a member of the Central Reformed Church, Prairie Knolls Country Club, American Legion, sold Cargill seeds, and served as Mahaska Farm Bureau President and chairman of the ASC committee.

In his younger years, Ted enjoyed deer and fox hunting. He enjoyed coffee times with friends, tractor pulls, and card parties. Ted also enjoyed singing hymns. The Oskaloosa Care Center was home to Ted in the last few years of his life, and while living there, he frequently led the singing at the care center church services. Meditating on the words of a favorite hymn would be a tribute to him and his faith.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Beth (Eric) Otto of Yorkville, Illinois; a grandson, Brent (Victoria) Otto of Yorkville, Illinois, and a granddaughter, Allison (John) Benedetti of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; a great-grandson and five great-granddaughters. His sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Frank Younkin of Glendale, Arizona, also survives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bertha; his daughter, Beverly Prine; an infant son, Frederick, his sister, Evelyn Dunnick and her husband Art; brothers-in-law, Ed and Paul Criss, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Cline; and a very dear friend, in his last years, Wilma Ver Steegh.

Private graveside services were held for Ted at Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa, with Rev. Jon Nelson of Central Reformed Church officiating. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to Beth Otto to be used towards a memorial bench in New Sharon or to Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House.

Obituary of Bertha:
Bertha Mae Ver Steegh was born April 15, 1925, in Lacey, Iowa to Cecil and Cora Dilley Criss. Bertha was a 1942 graduate of Urbana High School in Urbana Iowa.

August 14th, 1947, Bertha married Ted Ver Steegh in New Sharon. They made their home in rural New Sharon, Iowa, where for over 40 years Bertha was the New Sharon Librarian and Ted farmed. Bertha enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and church functions. She also loved attending North Mahaska athletic events and enjoyed playing cards. She was a member of the Prairie Knolls Club, the Red Hat Ladies from New Sharon and held many offices in the New Sharon Women's Club. She was a member of the Oskaloosa Friends Church, where she also held several offices in the Martha Faye Circle.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ted Ver Steegh; her daughter, Beth(Eric)Otto; grandchildren: Brent and Allison Otto; a great-grandson, Collins Otto; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Criss, Evelyn Dunnick and Anita(Frank)Younkin; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by a dughter, Beverly Prine; an infant son, frederick; brothers: Ed and Paul Criss; and a sister, Sylvia Cline.

Memorials contributions may be made to the College Avenue Friends Church or Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines. Visitation: Will begin at 11 am Friday morning, December 11, 2009 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 4-7pm to greet visitors. Funeral Service: 1 pm Saturday afternoon,, December 12, 2009 at College Avenue Friends Church with Reverend Tom Palmer officating. A Funeral Luncheon will preceed the service at 11:45 am in the church fellowship hall. The family invites all those wishing to attend the service to join them for the luncheon. Interment: Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
