He was married to Kate Fenstra in 1916 and settled at Melvin for 18 years. In 1933 they made their home near Sanborn. During that period of time he served for four years as a member of the Consistory of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn. In the spring of 1944 they moved to Sheldon, where they since have made their home. For 13 years he served as a director of the O'Brien Co-op Burials Associations.
His mother and father and one brother, Tone, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Kate, one son, Neil of Sanborn and one daughter, Grace (Mrs. Pete Funkert) of Primghar, six grandchildren and three brothers and one sister who still reside in Holland.

She was united in marriage to Gerrit Beyer on September 6, 1916 at Sibley, Iowa and to this union a son and daughter were born. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Melvln area until moving to a farm north of Sanborn in 1932. They continued farming until their retirement in 1943 at which time they moved to\ Sheldon.
Gerrit died in 1956. In 1961 Kate married Klaas Wolthuizen. Klaas died in 1962. Kate was a resident of the Christian Retirement Home at Sheldon from July of 1972 until entering Prairie View Home at Sanborn on February 21, 1985. She died there on April 3, 1995, at the age of 101 years, 10 months and one day.
She is survived by her son, Nell Beyer of Sanborn; her daughter, Grace Fonkert of Dawson, Minn.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by herparents, her husbands, her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Beyer, her son-in-law, Pete Fonkert, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and three sisters.
Kate was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon where she had also belonged to the Women's Guild. Kate will be remembered for the many hours she spent knitting and crocheting.
Funeral services were held April 7 at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn with Rev. Tom Hoogendoorn and Rev.William Haak officiating. Casket bearers were Galen Beyer,Gary Fonkert, Terry Fonkert, Clarence Wolthuizen, Andrew Wolthuizen and Kenneth Brower. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery with Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Beyer was born March 24, 1917, in Melvin, Iowa, the son of Garret and Kate (Fenstra) Beyer. He was raised and educated in the Melvin area. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
He married Sylvia Vander Woude on Sept. 25, 1943, in Alamenda, Calif. The couple moved to the Sanborn area, where they farmed. They moved into Sanborn in 1981. She died Aug. 30, 1985. He continued to help on the farm.
He was a member of First Reformed Church, American Legion and USS PYRO Association. He served on the board of directors for Sanborn Co-op Grain, Sanborn Housing, Sanborn Savings Bank, Sanborn Development and Prairie View. He served as president on some of the boards.
Survivors include three children, Jenean Beyer of Huntington Beach, Calif., Galen and his wife, Nancy of Sanborn, and Jane Beyer and Ed Stannard of Thompson's Station, Tenn.; a sister, Grace Fonkert of Dawson, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Scott Petrich, Steve Schuver, Keith Van Meeteren, Todd Juber, Don Faas, Tim Griffin, Lyle Donkersloot and Lonnie Klever.
Sanborn (Iowa) Pioneer, Feb , 1999
On September 25,1943 she was united in marriage to Neil Beyer at Alameda, Calif. Following their marriage they lived in California and Sanborn. She passed away at her home on August 30, 1985 at the age of 68 years, five months and 15 days.
She is survived by her husband, Neil; children: Jenean Beyer of Lakewood, Calif., Mrs. Bob (Jane) Knowlton, and son, Galen, both of Sanborn; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Jeanette) Peelen of Sheldon, three brothers: Richard, of Arnolds Park, la., Sidney, of Coralville, la. and Jean of Cerritos, Calif., and one sister-in-law, Helen Vander Woude of Sanborn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Willis, and sister Elizabeth.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, the Guild, a church organist for 50 years, she started the first Junior Choir in the church, has served as a choir leader, Sunday School teacher, and held office in the Guild. She was president of the Birthday Club of which she had belonged for 30 years. She welcomed new people to Sanborn as a Welcome Wagon representative.
Funeral services were held September 2 at the First Reformed Church at Sanborn with Rev. William Haak and Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Casket bearers were Merle Vander Woude, Gary VanDen Brink, Stan Vander Woude, Scott Petrich, Lyle Donkersloot and Larry Peelen. Honorary bearers were Ellwood Klever, John Zevenbergen, Jake Dekker, Glenn Strubbe, Willis Petrich and Phil Kaiser. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
