Mrs. Van Ravenswaay, the former Everdena Vande Hoef, was born January 28, 1896, in the Netherlands. She came to the U.S. in 1913 and married Johannes Van Ravenswaay on December 30, 1922, at Ireton. The couple lived in the Ireton-Sioux Center area.
Survivors include the widower; one daughter, Joan Van Ravesnwaay of Sioux Center; five sons, Richrd of Ireton, Adrian of Sioux Center; Gerard of Orange City; John of Boca Raton, Fla., and Donald of Chine, Calif.; three brothers, Richard of Los Angeles and Ed and John, both of Ireton; three sisters, Mrs. Bert De Jager, Mrs. Dreka Kool and Mrs. Frank Vander Feen, all of Hawarden; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Van Ravenswaay was born November 20, 1895 in the Netherlands and attended school there. He came to the United States in 1913. He married Dena Vande Hoef December 30, 1922 in Ireton. The couple farmed in the Ireton and Sioux Center areas. She died September 6, 1976. Mr. Van Ravenswaay was a member of the Netherlands Reformed congregation.
Survivors include four sons, Adrian of Sioux Center, Gerald of Orange City, John of Boca Raton, Fla., and Donald of Chino, Calif.; a daughter, Joan of Sioux Center; two brothers, Henry of Corona, Calif., and Gerrit of Sheldon; a sister, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Vander Linden of Sheldon; 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Dr. P.Y. De Jong officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family visitation was from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
He married Ruth Lammers December 11, 1945, in Sioux Center. They lived in Sioux Center where he operated a feed grinding business for 13 years. In 1959 they moved to rural Ireton. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Arlen of Sioux Center and Ron of Ireton; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Kathleen) Peterson of Sioux Center and Lorraine of Ireton; his father, Joe Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center; four brothers, Adrian of Sioux Center, Gerard of Orange City, John of Boca Raton, Florida, and Donald of Chino, California; a sister, Joan Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center and 10 grandchildren.

Van Ravenswaay was born October 2, 1925, to Johannes and Everdena Van Ravenswaay near Ireton. At age three, his family moved to a farm west of Sioux Center, which became his lifetime residence. He attended country school at Center #3 through the eighth grade. He served his country during WW II as a member of the Navy taking part in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946. After his return from the war he met and married Helena E. Vander Boon on February 8, 1954, in Rock Valley. The couple farmed west of Sioux Center from 1954 until his retirement.
He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center and served as a deacon for many years. He would often be found spending his free time repairing things at church. He found pleasure in gardening and and would grow sweet corn for his family and friends.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Helena Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center; four daughters, Dianne Van Ravenswaay of Minneapolis, Marilyn and Greg Peter of Tyler, Minnesota, JoAnn and Willis Groeneweg of Corsica, South Dakota, and Esther Van Ravenswaay of Hull; two sons, Norman and Sherry Van Ravenswaay of Rock Valley and Lyle and Mary Van Ravenswaay of Hull; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildrne; his brother, John Van Ravenswaay of Kissimmee, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Van Ravenswaay of Ireton, Sadie Van Ravenswaay of Orange City and Lila Van Ravenswaay of Ontario, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Gerard "Gary" and Donald Van Ravenswaay.
The Van Ravenswaay Family prefers memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.
Sioux Center News - 26 September 2007
On February 8, 1954, Lena was joined in marriage to Adrian Van Ravenswaay. The couple made their home on a farm near Sioux Center. Lena stayed busy tending the home and caring for the couple's six children. Lena was a member of the Sioux Center, Netherlands Reformed Congregation and was a dedicated member of the Dorcas Society. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Two years after Adrian passed away in 2007, Lena moved to Hull, Iowa where she resided until moving to Whispering Heights in Rock Valley last year.
She is survived by four daughters: Dianne Van Ravenswaay of Minneapolis, MN, Marilyn and Greg Peter of Tyler, MN, JoAnn and Willis Groeneweg of Corsica, SD and Esther Van Ravenswaay of Hull; two sons: Norman and Sherry Van Ravenswaay of Rock Valley, Lyle and Mary Van Ravenswaay of Hull; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Orie, John and Abe Vander Boon; and four sisters: Pauline Groen, Ann Vlastuin, Marie Rozeboom, and Connie Brown.
Helena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Adrian, and four sisters: Sarah Key, Sybil Van Veldhuizen, Ada Rozeboom and Joey Vander Boon.
Van Ravenswaay was born August 15, 1927, in rural Sioux Center, the son of Joe and Dena (Vander Hoef) Van Ravenswaay. He was raised at Sioux Cente,r where he attended a country school. At the end of World War II, he served in the United States Navy for two years.
On March 28, 1949, he married Sadie Wynia at Sioux Center. They farmed at Ireton for 10 years and then moved to Orange City. For 26 years, he was a salesman for Moorman's Feeds. He also operated a lawn service for 14 years. Since 1990, he has been employed at Kraai Furniture in Orange City.
He was a member of First Reformed Church and the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and bowling. His hobbies were collecting antique toy tractors, fishing poles and fishing tackle.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years; four children, Gerald Van Ravenswaay of Bradenton, Florida, Darrell Van Ravenswaay and his wife Diane of Sioux Falls, Linda, and her husband Mike Manning of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Jim Van Ravenswaay and his wife Lisa of New Berlin, Illinois; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, Adrian Van Ravenswaay and his wife Lena of Sioux Center and John Van Ravenswaay of Kissimmee, Florida; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louis and Hermina Wynia, Syne and Esther Wynia, Nelvie Wynia, Wilson and Cynthia Haarsma, Lila Van Ravenswaay and Ruth Van Ravenswaay.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Don; and a sister, Joan.

Mrs. Sadie Van Ravenswaay, age 94, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, September 29, at 3:00pm, at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink and Mr. Tom Hydeen will officiate. There will be a family prayer service on Tuesday, at 2:30, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the funeral home. We politely ask on behalf of the family, that masks be worn at the visitation and service.
Sadie was born on March 12, 1926, in Maurice, the daughter of Sam and Minnie (Draayer) Wynia. She was raised on a farm by Maurice, where she attended country school through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to Gerard (Gary) Van Ravenswaay on March 28, 1949, in Sioux Center. They made their home in Ireton until moving to Orange City in 1963. In addition to being a homemaker, she did laundry and housekeeping at the Pioneer Memorial Home for 25 years, as well as cleaned homes in the community. Gary passed away on October 8, 2004, in Orange City, after more than 55 years of marriage. In 2016, Sadie moved to the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Mrs. Van Ravenswaay was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. In earlier years she enjoyed bowling and fishing, and more recently she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and baking cookies and bars for her grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children, Gerald Van Ravenswaay, of Bradenton, Florida; Darrell Van Ravenswaay, and his wife, Diane, of Sioux Falls; Linda, and her husband, Micheal Manning, of Vermillion; and Jim Van Ravenswaay, and his wife, Lisa, of Bethalto, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Heather, and her husband, Corbin Womac; Justin Manning, and his wife, Colette; Andrew Manning, and his wife, Whitney; Nathan Van Ravenswaay, and his wife, Hope; Nolan Van Ravenswaay; Logan Van Ravenswaay; Clayton Nichols, and his wife, Sydney; Nathan Nichols, and his wife, Madison; and Paige, and her husband, Connor Patrick; seven great-grandchildren, Elise, Josiah, Jaren, Jeremiah, Jax, Myla, and Jameson; a brother and his wife, Syne and Esther Wynia, of Orange City; a sister and her husband, Cynthia, and Wilson Haarsma, of Jenison, Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Lila Van Ravenswaay, of California; and Pat Van Ravenswaay, of Oklahoma.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Louis and Hermina Wynia and John and Nelvie Wynia; a sister and her husband, Wilminia and Ed Wielenga; a sister-in-law, Joan Van Ravenswaay; and four brothers-in-law, Richard Van Ravenswaay, and his wife, Ruth; Adrian Van Ravenswaay, and his wife, Lena; Don Van Ravenswaay; and John Van Ravenswaay.
Memorials may be directed to the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community, the Dougherty Hospice House, both in Sioux Falls or the charity of your choice.

Joan Van Ravenswaay was born to Joe and Dena (Vande Hoef) Van Ravenswaay on November 5, 1930, near Sioux Center. She was raised on the family farm and moved into Sioux Center with her parents in 1954. That year she began working at Casey's Bakery in downtown Sioux Center. She was employed with the bakery for 38 years. She had been a resident of the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility since June 1994. She was a member of Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Survivors include three brothers and their wives, Adrian and Lena Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, Gerard "Gary" and Sadie Van Ravenswaay of Orange City and John and Tillie Van Ravenswaay of Kissimmee, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Van Ravenswaay of Ireton and Lila Van Ravenswaay of Ontario, California; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Donald Van Ravenswaay.

A dairyman, he was a native of Sioux Center and a Chino resident 30 years. He was a veteran of the Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a son, Joel Van Ravenswaay of Barstow, California; four daughters, Denise Miersma and Minda Ownes, both of Chino, and Alane and Susan Van Ravenswaay, both of Ontario; four grandchildren; a sister, Joan Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center; and three brothers, Adrian of Sioux Center, Gerard of Orange City and John of Boca Raton, Florida.
