Jake Middendorp, 83, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, October 7 at a Rock Valley hospital of a long illness.

Services were at 1:30 p.m., Thursday in the Porter Funeral Home at Rock Valley. The Rev. Joel Beeke officiated. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley.

Mr. Middendorp was born Nov. 26, 1896, in The Netherlands. He came to America at the age of 14. He married Katie Burggraff, March 10, 1921, at Inwood. He was in the general trucking business in Rock Valley.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Cornelius Middendorp of Sioux Center and William Middendorp of Hull; 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

Son of Cornelis van Middendorp and Willemina Storm.

Obituary of Katie
Katie Middendorp, 94, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, February 8, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were at 1 P. M. Saturday, February 12, at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with the Rev. John den Hoed officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

The former Katie Burggraaf was born April 23, 1899, in Bigelow, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Johanna (Egglink) Burggraaf.

She married Jake Middendorp March 10, 1921, at Inwood. The couple lived in the Rock Valley area. He died October 7, 1980, and she moved to Valley Manor January 13, 1987.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Cornelius and Greta Van Middendorp of Sioux Center; a daughter-in-law, Nellie Middendorp of Hull; two brothers, Arie Burggraaf of Rock Rapids and John Burggraaf of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Minnie Van Den Top of Doon and Gertie Van Den Top of Rock Valley; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Obituary of Cornelius
Cornelius Van Middendorp, 79, of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the Oak Park Care Center of Sheldon. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Reformed Church with the Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Cornelius Van Middendorp was born on June 13, 1927 to Jake and Katie (Burggraff) Van Middendorp in Albert Lea, Minn. He attended Albert Lea schools through the eighth grade. Cornie served his country in the US Army during WWII.

After his return home, he met and married Greta Van Veldhuizen in Rock Valley, on March 5, 1948. The couple then made their home on a Rock Valley farm for a short time before moving to Hull. While living in Hull, Cornie worked for Kooiker Manufacturing and the Hull Creamery. The couple later moved to Sioux Center where Cornie owned a radiator repair shop for nearly 30 years. For the last 8 years, he has worked for Link Manufacturing in Sioux Center.

Cornie was a longtime member of New Life Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and spending time in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Greta; his children, Jeroy Van Middendorp of Sheldon, Diane Van Middendorp of Sioux Center, Corwin Van Middendorp of Orange City and Lois and her husband Tony Saavedra of Hull; grandchildren, Tony and Jennifer Saavedra of Hull, Lisa and Mark Korthals of Waconia, Minn, Curtis Saavedra of Brookings, S.D., Sally Van Middendorp and special friend Gus Stallings of Sibley, Mindy Van Middendorp and special friend Cody Hansen of Sheldon; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cornie was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Ana and Henry Van Dam; and brother and sister-in-law, William and Nellie Van Middendorp.

Greta Van Middendorp
December 13, 1926 - August 24, 2020

Greta Van Middendorp, age 94, of Sheldon, Iowa formerly of Sioux Center died Monday, August 24, 2020 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. A funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa with Rev. Dave Van Kley officiating. Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the time of the service Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Greta Van Middendorp was born December 13, 1925 to Henry and Dena (Brinkman) Van Veldhuizen near Carmel, Iowa. She attended school in Doon, Iowa through the eighth grade. Greta was joined in marriage to Cornelius Van Middendorp on March 5, 1948 in Rock Valley, Iowa. The couple made their home in Doon where she proudly took on the role as a housewife and mother. The couple later moved to Sioux Center. After Cornelius died in 2006, Greta moved to Sheldon, Iowa.

She enjoyed reading her Bible and various newspapers. She was fond of watching Billy Graham services and was and loved listening to old Christian hymns. She was a caring person that found enjoyment in visiting with friends and family. While living in Sioux Center, Greta was a member of New Life Reformed Church and participated in various ladies groups.

She is survived by three children: Jeroy Van Middendorp of Sheldon, IA, Diane Van Middendorp of Sheldon, IA, Lois and Tony Saavedra of Hull, IA; 5 grandchildren: Sally Van Middendorp, Mindy Van Middendorp, Troy Saavedra, Lisa (Mark) Korthals and Curtis Saavedra; 6 great grandchildren: Jacen and Timae Saavedra, Jordan and Kathleen Saavedra, Ashlie Saavedra; Malcom Stallings, Ashley Korthals, Lexi Korthals; four siblings: Pearl (Arnold) Nielsen of Hull, IA, Della (Marlo) Muth of Akron, Iowa, Bernie (Sharon) Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA, Lester (Harriet) Van Veldhuizen of Doon, IA, and a sister-in-law, Garlene Van Veldhuizen of Alvord, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cornelius Van Middendorp; son, Corwyn Van Middendorp; an infant brother; infant twin sisters; two sister Henrietta (Marvin) Vander Weide, Verna (Hank)Wallenburg; brother, John H. Van Veldhuizen and brother-in-law, Arnold Sohl.

Nellie Middendorp, 66, of Hull, IA, died Tuesday. March 31, 1998, at her home. She was born to Mass & Hermina, (Zomermaand) Van Beek on August 25, 1931 in Sioux Center, IA.

Nellie married William Middendorp on December 20, 1950 in Maurice, IA. She worked at the Boyden-Hull Schools for the last 28 years. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church of Rock Valley, IA.

Survivors include: two sons and their wives: Jerry & Pattie of Fargo, ND and Wilmer & Donna of Platte, SD; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister & her husband: Gert & Dick Burgers of Doon, IA; & one brother & his wife: Egbert & JoAnn Van Beek of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son (Marvin).
