Mr. Max R. VanKlaveren, 82, of Aurora, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 at Countryside Nursing Home. He was born July 28, 1920 in Oskaloosa, IA, to the late Theodore and Carrie (Vander linden) VanKlaveren. Max served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart Medals. He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery V.F.W. Post 7452. He also was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his two daughters, Robin (Sonny) Sipes of Aurora and Kim (Doug) Kirhofer of Aurora; his four grandchildren, Mark Sipes, Mandy Sipes, Brett Kirhofer and Brian Kirhofer; his step-mother, Iva VanKlaveren of Santa Clarita, CA; his brother, Ted (Linda) VanKlaveren of Evansville, IN; his four sisters, Lois Scholl of Aurora, Phyllis (John) Buchner of Aurora, Norma Simmons of Cadiz, KY, and Dorothy (Charles) Besch of Sun Valley, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Lois (Fenton) VanKlaveren; his sister, Betty Jones; and his brother, Robert VanKlaveren.
Funeral services will be held Friday 10:00 a.m. September 13, 2002 at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, with Rev. William Warner officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. September 12, 2002 at The Healy Chapel Aurora. Interment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park.
She is survived by her devoted son Russell G. (Ann) Scholl and son Robert E. (Nancy) Scholl, grandchildren; Nina (Kurt) Johnson, Shelley Scholl, Tim Scholl and Kim, great grandchildren Irie Dues and Brandon Johnson, her sisters Norma Simmons, Phyllis Buckner and Dorothy (Charles) Besch several nieces and nephews and one special niece Robin Sipes. She is preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, a sister Betty Jones, brothers Ted, Robert, and Max Vanklaveren, and her step-mother Iva VanKlaveren.
Lois was a loving wife and mother who will be greatly missed. Family will receive guests on February 17, 2010 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon at Dieterle Memorial Home 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL 60538. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Orchard Valley Baptist Church "Jericho Journey Fund" 2301 Jericho Rd. George H. Scholl, 83, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Countryside Healthcare Center. He was born Aug,13, 1917 in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Scholl was a member of Orchard Valley Baptist Church and was employed at All-Steel Equipment in Aurora as a quality control inspector for 42 years until his retirement in 1984.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois H. Scholl of Aurora; two sons; Robert E. (Nancy) Scholl of Aurora & Russell G. (Ann) Scholl of Yorkville; four grandchildren; Kim, Nina, Shelley & Tim; one step-sister; Barbara Cope Of Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents George J. & Margarite ( Lisberg) Scholl. Funeral services for Mr. Scholl will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway, Montgomery, Ill. at 10:00 a.m. Rev. William Warner will officiate with interment in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Dieterle Memorial Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions in Mr. Scholl's name may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or to the Charity of the donors choice.
John M. Buchner, 95, of Aurora, IL was called to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday,
October 27, 2024.
He was born November 28, 1928 and lived his entire life in Aurora.
He attended Emmanuel Lutheran Grade School and East Aurora High School.
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL where he was active in the
Men's Club and served as an elder.
He subsequently became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Naperville, IL where he
served as an usher.
He began working at age 14 for his father as a delivery truck driver and later as a baker and cake decorator at Buchner's Bakery on the corner of 5th & Spencer. After his father's passing in 1975, he became owner of the bakery in partnership with his brothers Glenn, Carl & Robert. The brothers opened a second bakery in 1977 that was located in the West Aurora Plaza. Both bakeries were sold sometime around 2000.
His favorite hobby, as a youth of 14, was raising and training pigeons to race against others who did the same thing. He was the youngest member of an Aurora area club. That hobby came to an end when, at age 19, he started dating his future wife, Phyllis. He enlisted in the US Naval Reserve on May 15, 1948 and received an "Honorable Discharge" on May 14, 1957, having attained the rank of "Boatswain's Mate (shipboard), Petty Officer, 2nd Class".
His favorite hobby, as an adult, was collecting and repairing old stem-wound watches and spring driven clocks. He and Phyllis were members of the "The Fox Valley Watch & Clock Collectors Guild". He was the guild's president for 1975. In late 1999, he and fellow clock enthusiast Dave King repaired the Aurora Historical Society's 1905 Blanford Astronomical Clock, which had stopped working 10 years earlier. The repaired clock is running to this day.
He is survived by his four children, Gregory (Janet) Buchner, Carlene (Dale) McWilliams, Jacklyn (Jeffrey) Brandt and Kathleen (Gary) Lorenz; grandchildren: Michael (Andrea) McWilliams, Taylor (Megan) McWilliams & Joseph McWilliams; Alexander (Erica) Brandt & Daniel (Allie) Brandt; Emily (Michael) Carey; Elyssa Lorenz & Evan Lorenz; great-grandchildren: Maxwell, Dexter & Huxley McWilliams; Brodie & Ellie McWilliams; Sofia & Noah Rahn-McWilliams; Milo & Jacob Brandt; brother Carl (Jackie) Buchner; sisters Ann Straits, Louise Dreyer, Irene Fredrick & Susan (Ken) Sharp; sisters-in-law JoAnne, Carole & Theodora Buchner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Phyllis, his wife of 62 years; his parents Michael & Katherine Buchner; brothers Ralph, Glenn & Robert Buchner, and sisters Charlene (Walter) Seib, Dorothy (Clarence) Straits, Frances (Carl) Butler, Roberta (Jack) Quinlan; brothers-in-law Robert Hoovey, Robert Straits, E. James Dreyer & Martin Fredrick.
He acknowledged many times how fortunate he had been in having so many good and caring friends and neighbors. His family acknowledges how fortunate he was to also have so many good and caring doctors and caregivers in the final days of his earthly life. Our family was blessed to have him with us for all these years. He and our mother gave us so much love. We are happy for him that he can finally rest in peace and will be with the love of his life once again. Although our heartache is now immense, we also rejoice in knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Mark Birkholz on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 11007 S. Book Road, Naperville, IL with visitation from 9:30 AM until the service hour at church. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park, 675 US Route 30, Aurora, IL. Donations may be made in John's memory to Zion Lutheran Church.
