Obituaries of Cornelius and Wilhelmina

Neal Kroon, 81, of Rock Rapids, who serviced as Lyon County Sheriff from 1958 until 1968 died Thursday in a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 14 in the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. The Rev. Dan Brouwer officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Kroon was born April 13, 1905, in Sioux Center. He married Wilhelmina Van Roekel February 22, 1928, in Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Sioux Center area until 1936 when they moved to Rock Rapids. He operated a garage until 1958 when he became Lyon County Sheriff, retiring in 1968. Mrs. Kroon died in 1983.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. M.W. (Ruth) Hocking of Rock Rapids; three brothers, Gerrit of Boyden, Richard of Sioux Center and the Rev. William of Belmond; seven sisters, Gertrude Punt of Corsicana, S.D., Dill Vand Berg, Cornelia Kroon, Bernice Baker, Arlone Vos and Clarence Kroon, all of Sioux Center, and Margaret Vortman of Norco, Calif; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Wilhelmina Kroon, 79, Rock Rapids, died Friday, May 6, at a Rock Rapids Hospital.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. The Rev. William De Young officiated. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids.

Mrs. Kroon, the former Wilhelmina Van Roekel, was born on March 18, 1904, at Sioux Center. She married Neal Kroon on February 22, 1928,a t Sioux Center. They farmed in the Sioux Center area until 1936 when they moved to Rock Rapids. They operated a garage for several years and from 1958 to 1968 he served as Lyon County sheriff. They retired in 1968.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. M.W. (Ruth) Hocking of Rock Rapids; two grandchildren; a brother, John Van Roekel of Sioux Center; three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Jeanette) Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center, Mrs. Art (Alice) De Goei of Orange City and Mrs. Jack (Jean) Mieras of Boyden.
