Gerrit Kroon, 85, Boyden, died Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 20, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden with the Rev. Mark Volkers officiating. Interment was at the Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden. The services were arranged by Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.
Kroon was born June 26, 1910, at Sioux Center, the son of Henry D. and Hattie (Van Roekel) Kroon. He was raised in West Branch Township. On March 23,1935, he married Mary Voortman at Sioux Center. They first lived in Rock Rapids where he was in the auto salvage business and then at Orange City, where he was employed by Silent Sioux. They then farmed west of Carmel for several years. In 1950, they moved to a farm near Boyden. In 1959, they moved into Boyden where he was employed as a painter and later worked for the Farmers Cooperative Elevator. He retired in 1972. He was a member of the First Reformed Church where he served on the consistory as both an elder and deacon. He also sang with the Senior Saints for several years.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Eleanor and her husband, David, Kaminga of Hoodsport Wash., Lois and her husband, Boyd, Northey of Milford, Gerald and his wife, Ruth, of Sheldon, Audrey Rol of Lincoln, Neb., and Verlyn and his wife, Geri, of Omaha, Neb.; 15 grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Richard of Sioux Center and the Rev. William of Hampton; and six sisters, Deila Vande Berg, Cornelia Kroon, Margaret Voortman, Bernice Baker, and Clarene Kroon, all of Sioux Center, and Arlene Vos of Minnesota.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene, in 1957; a brother, Neal; and two sisters, Gertrude Punt and Marilyn Kroon.
Memorials are being directed to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Kroon, 87, of Sheldon, formerly of Boyden, died on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 22, at the First Reformed Church in Boyden. The Rev. Matthew Draffen officiated. Interment was held prior to the service at the Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Kroon, the daughter of Evert and Hilda Wichers Voortman, was born May 3, 1910, in Sioux Center. She received her education in country schools in Sioux County. On March 23, 1935, she was united in marriage to Gerrit Kroon in Sioux Center. After their marriage, the couple lived in Rock Rapids before moving to Orange City. They later farmed near Carmel until 1950 when they moved to a farm near Boyden. In 1959 the couple moved into Boyden. Her husband died on Nov. 16, 1995, in Sheldon.
Mary continued to make her home in Boyden before moving to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in November 1996. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden.
Mary is survived by five children, Eleanor and her husband. David Kaminga of Olympia, Wash., Lois and her husband, Boyd Northey of Milford, Gerald and his wife, Ruth Kroon of Sheldon, Audrey Rol of Omaha, Neb., and Verlyn and his wife, Geri Kroon of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fredreka Van Ginkel of Ontario, Calif; three brothers, Rich Voortman of Visalia, Calif., John Voortman of Sioux Center, and Tony Voortman of Escalon, Calif; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Marlene in 1957, her parents and two sisters and five brothers.

MARLENE KROON, 17, DIES AT BOYDEN
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 13, at the Boyden Reformed Church, for Marlene Kroon, 17, who died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, March 10, at the farm home of her parents southwest of Boyden. Burial was in the Boyden Cemetery.
Marlene was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Kroon. She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Evert Voortman and Mrs. Hattie Kroon all of Sioux Center.
Marlene was a member of the 1956 graduating class at the Boyden High School.
