Martin Korver of Orange City died Sunday afternoon, July 25, at the Grossmann Hospital at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 29 days. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, at one o'clock in the First Reformed church of Orange City with Dr. Henry Colenbrander officiating.
Mr. Korver was born on November 26, 1874 on a farm two miles east of Orange City. He was the son of William and Martina Korver. At the age of 14 years he moved with his parents to the farm two miles north and two miles east of Alton, where he homesteaded for 56 years.
In the year 1900 he was married to Jennie Mouw. In the fall of 1941 they moved to their present home in Orange City.
Mr. Korver is survived by his wife, five sons and two daughters; William, Henry, Martina (Mrs. Anthony Muilenburg), Myna (Mrs. Gillis Haverdink), Arthur, Myron, all of this vicinity, and Simon of Nooksack, Wash. Thirty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive. One brother Gerrit of Pipestone, Minn, and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Mouw of Leota, Minn;, and Everet Mouw of Orange City are also listed among the survivors.
Mr. Korver was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur Otto, age two, in 1908, and John C., age 27, in 1944. Also one grandchild, Marilyn Muilenburg, age thirteen, in 1942. Also preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters as follows: John, George, Gerrude (Mrs. Dick Reinsma) and Marjorie in infancy.
Mr. Korver was a member of the First Reformed church in long standing, where he also served as a deacon.

Mrs. Martin Korver, 86, passed away Monday at the Municipal hospital where she had been a patient for three years and seven months. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p,m. today (Thursday) at the First Reformed church, Rev. Raymond Van Heukelom and Rev. Robert Bast will officiate. Burial will be in the Orange City Cemetery.
Mrs. Korver, nee Jennie Mouw, was born March 21, 1878 at Orange City, Ia. She married Martin Korver on March 8, 1900, who died in 1954. They farmed near Alton until 1942 when they moved to Orange City.
Survivors include six children, William of Sioux Center; Henry of Alton; Martina, (Mrs. Anthony Muilenburg); Myna (Mrs. Gillis Haverdink), both of Orange City; Nyron of Alton, Simon of Nocksack, Wash,; 34 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; one brother, Otto Mouw of Orange City.
Mrs, Korver was preceded in death by her husband, one child in infancy; and two sons, John and Arthur. Also one brother; six sisters and one grandchild.

Mr. Korver was born June 11, 1914, at rural Alton, the son of Martin and Jennie (Mouw) Korver. He married Allie Vander Maten January 18, 1940, at Sheldon. A lifelong area farmer, he retired in 1979 and moved to Orange City in August 1983. He was a member of the First Reformed Church and a board member of the Farmer's Mutual Co-op Elevator of Alton, and the AMPI.
Survivors include his wife, Allie; five sons, Kenneth. Stanley and Donley, all of Alton, Clifford of Orange City and Rodney of Sheldon; a daughter, Allyn Korver of Everly; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, William of Sioux Center and Simon of Lynden, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Anthony (Martina) Muilenburg and Mrs. Gillis (Myna) Haverdink, both of Orange City.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Allie was born on November 28, 1916, in rural Alton, the daughter of Herman and Hattie (Van Oort) Vander Maten. She was the oldest of eleven children and was raised on a farm four miles south of Boyden.
On January 18, 1940, she married Myron Korver in rural Sheldon. They started farming west of Newkirk and then moved to the family farm north of Alton, where they raised their six children. In August of 1983, they moved to Orange City. Myron passed away on December 22, 1984, at Alton.
Allie was a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, from the summer of 2003 to the summer of 2006. Then she lived in area care centers and since August of 2007, has been at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Mary-Martha Circle for many years. She enjoyed sewing for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In later years, she made quilts for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and others. She liked to play card games. In 2003 she received the Honorary 4-H Member Award for her support and longtime interest in the Sioux County program.
Survivors include four sons and their wives, Cliff and Geneva Korver, and Stan and Linda Korver, all of Orange City; Don and Marilyn Korver, of Alton; and Rod and Lanette Korver, of Sheldon; a daughter and her husband, Allyn and Mike Heikens, of Everly; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Korver, of Alton; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Vander Maten, of Hull; Bill (Ann) Vander Maten, of Boyden; and Herm (Marilyn) Vander Maten, of Surprise, Arizona; five sisters, Jenieva Kastein, of Rock Rapids; Cia (Chap) Vander Ploeg, of Hospers; Harriet (Wilbur) Harmelink, of Orange City; and Mynie (Gene) Beernink and Kaye (Herb) Kuyper, all of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Millie Vander Maten, of Boyden; and a brother-in-law, Simon (Gert) Korver, of Lynden, Washington.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Korver; a brother, Hans Vander Maten; a sister and her husband, Gert and Bill Huisman; and a brother-in-law, Peter Kastein.
Memorials may be directed to the Northwest Iowa Dialysis Center in Hospers.
He was born on a farm north of Alton on August 27, 1916 and lived all his life in this community. He was a graduate of N.W.C.A., graduating from N.W. Jr. College in the Spring of 1940 after which he worked for the Sioux Oil Company for 9 months. He began work in the A.A.A. office in September 1941 which work he was engaged in at the time he was taken ill.
He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church, a member of the Sunday School and Treasurer of the C.E. Society. John had a pleasing personality and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are his parents, two sisters and five brothers. They are: Martina, Mrs. Anthony Muilenburg and Mina, Mrs. Gillis Haverdink of Orange City, William Korver of Le Mars, Henry and Arthur Korver of Alton, Myron Korver of Orange City and Simon Korver of Hospers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock at the home and 1:30 P.M. at the First Reformed Church at Orange City with the Reverend H. Colenbrander officiating. Interment will be made in the local cemetery.
