Sarah "Dolly" Reinsma, age 91, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, January
5, 2014, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
Sarah Ann was born on March 13, 1922, in Alton, the daughter of Pier and Alyda (Kosters) Wiersma. She was raised mostly in Orange City, where she attended elementary school.
On August 24, 1943, she married Jurrian D. Reinsma in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker. She also worked at the DX Coffee Shop and later operated Dolly and Jerry's Coffee Shop, both in Orange City. "Jerry" passed away on December 11, 1996, in Orange City.
About 1999, "Dolly" became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In 2008, she transferred to assisted living at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn.
She was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church and an associate member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn. In earlier years, she participated in the women's organizations at her church.
Mrs. Reinsma was also a member of the Birthday Club. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and playing dominoes.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Larry and Audrey Reinsma, of Wheaton, Illinois; a daughter and her husband, Lois and Frank Russell, of Shafter, California; a son-in-law, Richard Vanden Hoek, of Sanborn; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Wilma Foreman and Helen Huizenga, both of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Marie Wiersma, of Redlands, California.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Lyla Beth Vanden Hoek and Leann Biesecker; a sister, Darlene White; and a brother, Kenneth Wiersma.

Mr. Duven, 52, died at Municipal hospital at 9 p.m.Tuesday night about two hours after being crushed under the wheels of the Orange City fire department water truck.
The accident occurred as Duven sought to guide the truck through a conjestion of cars blocking the road to a farm fire.
A widely known Orange City businessman, Duven operated the Duven Music and Electric Company here. Active in civic and church affairs, he was a member of the volunteer fire department for 28 years.
The Duven home is at 217 Boston avenue, N.E.
Conducting services will be the Rev. Lenderink, pastor of the Trinity Reformed churchand the Rev. Hook, pastor of the American Reformed church. Burial will be in the Orange City cemetery.
Duven, eldest son of James and Minnie Duven,, was born September 5, 1909, at Maurice, Iowa. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Orange City. He would have been 53 next Wednesday. He was educated in the public school, Northwestern Academy and Junior college in Orange City.
On June 6, 1938, he was married to Frances Reinsma and three children were born into their home: son, Dennis James, 21, engaged in graduate study at Iowa State University, and two daughters - Helen Fern, 19, serving as secretary in the public chools, and Donna Rae, 14, a freshman in high school.
Mr. Duven was engaged in business in Orange City all his adult life. He served his community in many capacities: for 28 years a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and was assistant chief; past president of the Chamber of Commerce and an active member of several of its committees; Tulip Festival Steering Committee member and its chairman for one term; and Lion's Club board member.
He was a member of Trinity Reformed church.
Surviving besides his wife and children are three sisters: Esther (Mrs. Alfred Aalberts of Orange City), Edith (Mrs. E.B. Versteeg of Portland, Oregon), and Leona (Mrs. James Grooters of Scotch Plains, New Jersey), and one brother, Howard, of Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, June 13, at 10:30am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Donald Lenderink will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Frances, who was actually named Hermina Francina, was born on June 25, 1915, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Derek "Dick" and Gertrude (Korver) Reinsma. She was raised at Orange City.
On June 6, 1938, she married Stanley Chester Duven at Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where they operated Duven Music and Electric.
"Stan" passed away on August 28, 1962, in Orange City.
"Fran" then gave piano and organ lessons, and she was a housekeeper at Kraai Furniture and Oolman Funeral Home, both in Orange City.
In the summer of 2005, she moved to the Franken Manor in Sioux Center, and in January of this year, she transferred to the Royale Meadows Care Center there. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, where she served as an organist for many years. She enjoyed reading and was an excellent seamstress.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Dennis and Rose Duven, of Silver Spring, Maryland; two daughters and their husbands, Helen and Russell Vande Vegte, of Sioux Center; and Donna and Randy Bakker, of Elmhurst, Illinois; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, John and Reona Reinsma, of Woodland Park, Colorado; and a sister-in-law, Sarah "Dolly" Reinsma, of Orange City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter; five sisters, Sophie Reinsma, Wilhelmina Woudstra, Jeanette Docter, Martina Kreykes, and Jennie Bouma; and two brothers, the Rev. William Reinsma and Jurrian "Jerry" Reinsma.
Memorials may be directed to the church for their music fund.
Mrs. Bouma was born on May 29, 1917, at Orange City, the daughter of Dick and Gertrude (Korver) Reinsma. She was raised at Orange City. On September 6, 1939, she married Ralph Bouma at Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker and also assisted her husband with his Watkins Products distributorship. He died April 14, 1988, in Sioux City. In the spring of 1998, she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In December of 1998, she transferred to the Heritage House.
She was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and participated in the women's activities. She was also a vocalist for special occasions, singing solos and duets with her brother. She was active in the Monica Society in Orange City, and she and her husband enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include her daughter; three sons; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife; a sister; and two sisters-in-law.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson; four sisters, Sophie Reinsma, Wilhelmina Woudstra, Jeanette Docter and Martina Kreykes; and two brothers, The Rev. William Reinsma and Jerry Reinsma.
Memorials will be directed to the Unity Christian High School in Orange City.
