Funeral services for Peter Van Roekel, 89, were held Thursday at l0:00 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed Church. Rev. Donald Lenderink officiated. Burial was made at West Lawn Cemetery, with the Van Etten Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Van Roekel died Monday at the local hospital, where he had been a patient for the last 5½ years.
He was born near Orange City on Oct. 22, 1877. He farmed in the Maurice area until moving to Orange City in 1937. He was married to Johanna De Jong, Dec. 28, 1906.
Survivors include one son, Elmer, of Maurice. 4 granchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Henry Van Stryland of Orange City and Mrs. Peter Roos of Sheldon, and three brothers, George of Maurice, Benjamin of Orange City, and Ernest of Lynden, Wash.
His wife preceded him in death in 1962. Also preceding him in death were a daughter Ruth, a son Milton, and 2 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Trinity Ref. Church for Mrs. Peter Van Roekel, 79, who passed away Friday at 8:30 a.m., in the Orange City hospital, where she had been a patient since Oct. 1961. She was born July 10, 1882, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. De Jong of Maurice and was married Dec. 27, 1906.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Roekel were the parents of 3 children: Elmer, who resides at Maurice; Milton, whose death occurred April 8, 1958; Ruth (Mrs. Milo Schwartz) passed away April 6, 1948.
Surviving besides the husband, and son, Elmer, are 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Mrs. Tillie Duven and Bertha De Jong of Orange City; 2 brothers, Hubert De Jong of Maurice and Harold De Jong of Paullina.
Two sisters and 2 brothers preceded in death.
Officiating at the funeral services were: Rev. H.S. Muilenburg and Rev. H. Colenbrander. Burial was in the local cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Service.
