ABRAHAM SCHIEBOUT

ORANGE CITY, IA -Abraham Schiebout, 82, of Orange City died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his residence. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. C. Orville Kool officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mr. Schiebout, known as "Abe," was born May 9, 1919, in Ireton, IA, the son of Christian and Lena (De Groot) Schiebout. He was raised in Sioux Center, IA. He worked on farms as a young adult. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Nelvera Hendrene Roos on Nov. 27, 1942, in Alton, IA. They made their home in Orange City, where he first sold insurance and hybrid seed corn. Later, he founded FANDSCO, which distributed Ralco feed additives for livestock. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also was active in community affairs, especially the American Legion Pressman-Kosters Post and the Boy Scouts, serving as a scoutmaster. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Firman and Cheryl Schiebout of Shanghai, China; two daughters, the Rev. Arlyce Schiebout of Cardinal, Ontario, Canada, and Dr. Denise Schiebout and her husband, Joseph Dixon of Grosse Ile, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Annette Schiebout of West Dundee, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Schiebout, Janson and Christine La Bond. Jessen and Kyle Schiebout, Benjamin, Thomas and Andrew Dixon; two brothers, Chris Schiebout of Holland, Mich., and Conn Schiebout of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and two sisters, Anna Gesink of Wayland, Mich., and Dinah Ter Horst of Ireton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Nolan Schiebout who died in April 2001; and six brothers, Ferdinand, Henry C., Herman, Gerrit, Ben and Joe Schiebout.

Obituary of Nelvira
Nelvera Schiebout, 92, of Orange City passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. John Klompien and Rev. Arlyce Schiebout will officiate. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 7 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Nelvera Hendrine was born on Dec. 2, 1921, in rural Alton, IA, the oldest child of Peter and Gertrude (Van Roekel) Roos. She was raised on her parents' farm between Alton and Newkirk, IA. She attended the Newkirk Reformed Church and graduated from the country school near her parents' home.

She married Abe Schiebout on Nov. 27, 1942, at her parents' farm, when he was in the U.S. Army. After the conclusion of World War II and Abe’s return from the Pacific in late 1945, they made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker. He passed away on Feb. 14, 2002, in Orange City.

In 2006, Mrs. Schiebout became a resident of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community. In 2008, she moved to the Heritage House Nursing Home, both in Orange City. She transferred to Prairie Ridge in October 2013.

She was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, organist, and choir member, and participated in Bible study groups and the women’s organizations.

She was also active in the community with the American Legion Auxiliary (life member), in Cub Scouts serving as a den mother, in 4-H serving as a club leader, and in Y-Teens as a sponsor. She enjoyed traveling, visiting children and grandchildren, gardening, quilting, knitting, and the annual family fishing trip.

Survivors include a son, Firman (Cheryl) Schiebout of Holmen, Wis.; two daughters, the Rev. Arlyce Schiebout of Perth, Ontario, Canada, and Dr. Denise Schiebout of Alpena, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Annette Schiebout of Algonquin, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Matthew Schiebout, Sara Schiebout, Janson LaBond (Rhonda Bulloch), Christine Heyes LaBond (Scott Heyes), Dr. Jessen Schiebout, Kyle Schiebout, Ben Dixon, Thomas Dixon, and Andrew Dixon; one great-grandson, Jacob Alexander Heyes; three sisters, Maxine (Ray) Heemstra of Bartlesville, Okla., Gladys Kessel of Byron Center, Mich., and Arlene (Chuck) Lubbers of Orange City; one brother, Edwin (Bev) Roos of Sheldon, IA; two brothers-in-law, Harry Ostendorf of Oshkosh, Wis., and Chris Schiebout of Holland, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Dinah Ter Horst of Sioux Center, IA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Nolan Schiebout (2001); two sisters, Bernice Baker and Muriel Oostendorf; a brother, Kenneth Roos; a brother in infancy; three brothers-in-law, Al Kessel, Lawrence Ter Horst, and Fred Baker; and a sister-in-law, Berdena Roos.

Obituary of Berdena:
Berdena Edith Roos, 77, Sheldon, died Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Friday, Oct. 22 at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. Brian Keepers officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Berdena Roos, daughter of Bert and Jessie (Wieringa) Miedema, was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Hospers. She received her education at Hospers Christian School. After school she worked as a "Mother's helper" in different homes in Hospers. She also worked in the Sheldon Hospital before she was married. She married Kenneth Roos on Sept. 16, 1949, in Sheldon. They lived in Ashton for a year. They moved in 1951 to a farm four miles east of Sheldon. They moved into Sheldon in 1998.

She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon and the Reformed Church Women, Bible Study Groups. She taught Sunday School for several years. She loved her family and her friends, and food always made the circle complete. She enjoyed taking care of her kids and grandkiddies and she always kept the cookie jar full. She also loved animals - cats, dogs and her Holstein calves.

Survivors are her husband, Kenneth Roos; six children, Bryan and Lori Roos of Mahtomedi, MN, Daryl and Sharron Roos of Sheldon, Jana and Rick Hanson of Dell Rapids, S.D. Lenae and Robbie Harris of Morningside, Kent and Katie Roos of Minneapolis, MN; 10 grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Miedema of Sheldon; Shar Miedema of Edgerton, MN.

She was preceded in death by a 12 year-old grandson, Paul Roos in 1997; and a brother, Henry Miedema.
