Obituaries of Grada and John
Mrs. John Mouw Passed Away

Mrs. John Mouw was born September 28, 1886 near Sioux Center, and was one of the nine children of old Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Roekel, nee Matilda Rouwenhorst.

She has lived in the vicinity of Sioux Center, then of Carmel, and later upon retiring in Sioux Center.

On February 27, 1907 she was united in marriage to John B. Mouw. To this union five children were born, all of them surviving.

The deceased had been declining in health for a few years. About two years ago she went to Rochester, Minn., where she underwent a goiter operation. From the after effects of the operations she never recovered.

In addition she was afflected with hardening of the arteries. Last Tuesday she suffered a stroke, which resulted in her death last Thursday, Jan. 18.

On January 5th of this year she was taken to a Sanatarium at Grand Rapids, Michigan, but all the surgeons, sanatariums, love ones sought to do, it was no\ avail. Death claimed her. She had reached the age of 64 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held in the Central Reformed Church on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Interment was in the local cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband and the five children: Matilda, Mrs. Gerrit Sandbulte of Carmel; Bernard of Sheldon; Gerald and Junaida, Mrs. Richard Dibbet of Carmel, and Melvin of Sioux Center. Four of her brothers preceeded her in death, namely, Chris, Wm., Albert, and George, One sister and three brothers survive her, namely Mrs. Christine Kuyper of Rock Valley; John of Hull, Otto of Orange City, and Henry of Amherst, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and large number of relatives and friends.

The deceased was a member of this Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Church. She had her hope in Christ as the only way unto salvation and felt the need of the Lord in her life.

John B. Mouw, 77, 14-year resident of S-Center, dies

John B. Mouw, 77, Sioux Center resident the past 14 years, died Monday in the Sioux Center community hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Central Reformed church with Rev. Marion Klaaren officiating. Interment was made in the Sioux Center cemetery.

Mr. Mouw was born December 6, 1881, near Sioux Center.

He married Grace Van Roekel here February 28, 1907. They farmed near Carmel, Ia., until they moved to Sioux Center. Mrs. Mouw died January 18, 1951.

Survivors include three sons, Bernard of Sheldon,. Ia., Gerald and Melvin. both of Sioux Center; two daughters, Mrs. Matilda Sandbulte and Mrs. Junaida Dibet, both of Rock Valley, Ia., three brothers, William, Ben B. and Peter B., all of Sioux Center; four sisters, Mrs. John Schoet and Mrs. Johanna Van Roekel, both of Sioux Center, Mrs. A. Bruins and Mrs. Will Bruins, both of Bellflower, Cal.; 19 grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren.

Obituaries of Bernard and Johanna

Bernard A. Mouw, 77, of Boyden died Wednesday, May 25, in the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were Saturday in the First Reformed Church in Boyden with the Rev. Robert Hector officiating. Burial was in Sheridan Township Cemetery at Boyden under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Mr. Mouw was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Rock Valley and attended rural Plato Township School.

He married Marie Rozeboom Aug. 26, 1937 at Carmel. The couple farmed near Sioux Center and Boyden, retiring into Boyden in 1975.

Mr. Mouw was an active member of the First Reformed Church and was active in community affairs.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, John of Carbondale, Ill., Kenneth of Sioux Center and Robert of Alton; two daughters, Janet Franke of Riceville and Phyllis Peterson of Olathe, Kan.; two brothers, Gerald and Melvin, both of Sioux Center; two sisters, Matilda Sandbulte and Juanaida Dibbet, both of Sioux Center; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the Norma Muilenburg Scholarship Fund at Northwestern College.

Marie Mouw, age 102, of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA, with Rev. Van Rathbun, officiating.

Prayer service for family and friends will be held at 8:30 AM Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Interment will follow at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, IA.

Visitation with the family present will be held on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Johanna Marie Mouw was born February 12, 1916 near Kanawha, IA to Tunis and Jennie (Roskamp) Rozeboom. She attended country school near Carmel in Sioux County. As a young person she was a hard worker and helped her parents with the farming. Being the oldest of nine children she also helped with the raising of her siblings. On August 26, 1937 she was united in marriage to Bernard Mouw at her parents’ home and then moved to the Mouw homestead near Sioux Center. In 1948 the young couple moved to a farm near Boyden, farming and raising their family there until retiring in 1975 at which time they moved into Boyden. While still on the farm Marie went back to school to get her certified nurses aide license. She worked as an aide for over 10 years. Her loving care helped many over this time. She also began working as a volunteer for Hospice and spent many years as a valuable member of the Hospice family. Her desire to serve was rewarded with the Hospice Volunteer of The Year awarded by Governor Terry Branstad himself. She always wanted to be of help to people. With her boundless compassion, she was looked at as a wonderful mentor to many. Marie loved to travel and was able to experience trips to all but 2 of our United States as well as several foreign countries. In 1988 Marie lost her husband Bernard. In January of 1990 she moved from Boyden to a condo in Sioux Center. She eventually moved to Crowne Point and onto Royale Meadows as her need for care advanced. It was there that Marie died on Saturday at the age of 102. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by son, John (Judie) Mouw of Davenport, IA; daughter, Janet Franke of Lake Havasu City, AZ; son, Ken (Colleen) Mouw of Elk Point, SD; daughter, Phyllis (Collyn) Peterson of Overland Park, KS; son, Robert (Shirley) Mouw of Alton, IA; son-in-law, Bill (Shirley) Muilenburg of Orange City, IA; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Tiemeyer, Margaret Brock, and Marilyn Vander Esch all of Michigan and Arlene Bidwell of Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law, Donna Rozeboom of Michigan and Mina Mouw of Sioux Center; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard; daughter, Norma Muilenburg; son-in-law, Dean Franke; granddaughter, Sheila Franke; great grandson, Daniel Sartwell; granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly Mouw; great granddaughter, Brittany Muilenburg.

Gerald Mouw, 92, of Sioux Center, Iowa, was born to John B. and Grace (Van Roekel) Mouw on Jan. 24, 1915, in Carmel, Iowa. He died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Burial was Wednesday in Carmel Cemetery.

Memorial services were 10:30 am. Wednesday at Carmel Reformed Church in rural Rock Valley, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating.

He married Kathryn Schouten on Jan. 9, 1941 in Middleburg, Iowa. The couple farmed one and one half miles south of Carmel for 38 years. After retirement, he continued to help his son-in-law and grandsons for many years on the farm.

He was a lifetime member of Carmel Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Kathryn; two children, Larry Mouw of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lois and her husband, Jim Joffer of Sioux Center; grandchildren, Jeremy and Dawn Joffer of Volga, S.D.; Jason and Heidi Joffer of Sioux Center; Josh Joffer of Sioux Center; four great-grandchildren, Macy, Hannah and Ethan of Volga, S.D.; and Blake Joffer of Sioux Center; sisters, Matilda Sandbulte and Junaida Dibbet, both of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Marie Mouw and Mina Mouw, both of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard and Melvin Mouw; and two brothers-in-law, Gerritt Sandbulte and Rich Dibbet.

Obituary of Kathryn

Kathryn Martha Mouw, 90, of Sioux Center died Thursday, February 28, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

A memorial service was Saturday at 2 p.m. a t Carmel Reformed Church of rural Sioux Center with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Interment was held prior to the memorial service in the Carmel Cemetery.

Mrs. Mouw was born May 24, 1917, to Peter and Grace (Vennis) Schouten in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of three. She was raised in the Rock Valley area, attending school through the eighth grade.

She married Gerald Mouw on January 9, 1941, in Middleburg. The couple farmed south of Carmel for 38 years. After their retirement they moved to Sioux Center, where they resided until his passing on March 11, 2007. She became a resident of Valley Manor in Rock Valley in August of 2007.

She was a longtime member of Carmel Reformed Church where she was active in ladies aid and vacation Bible school. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, volunteering her time at Hope Haven and helping with arts and crafts at the hospital nursing wing in Sioux Center. She was fond of fishing and playing cards with friends. She took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors are her two children, Larry Mouw of Sioux Falls and Lois and her husband Jim Joffer of Sioux Center; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Schouten of Sioux Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Adrian De Bie; three brothers and sisters-in-law,Neal and Clara Schouten, Peter C. and Cecelia Schouten and Henry and Jeanette Schouten; and brother, Melvin Schouten.

The Mouw Family prefers memorials to the Carmel Reformed Church New Horizon Building Fund.

Obituaries of Richard and Junaida

Richard Dibbet, 79, of Sioux Center, died Friday, September 7, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services were Monday at 11 a.m. at Carmel Reformed Church with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. Burial was in the Carmel Cemetery.

Dibbet was born to Jacob and Sophie (Van Ravenswaay) Dibbet on January 9, 1922, near Sioux Center. He attended the Plato Township Country School until the eighth grade. He married Junaida Mouw on December 17, 1943, in Carmel. They farmed until retiring to Sioux Center. He helped establish and served on the board of directors for New Life Treatment Center in Woodstock, Minnesota. He also served on the Board of the Farmers Co-Op Society in Sioux Center.

He was a member of Carmel Reformed Church, having been an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed singing, fishing and visiting with senior citizens.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years; five children, James and Gloria of St. Johns, Michigan, Sharon and Rick Brommer of Sioux Falls, Marlin and Vicky of Sioux Center, Shirley and Glen Van Zee of Townsend, Montana, and David and Deb of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack and Priscilla; four sisters, Alice Van Voqr st, Gertrude and John Draayer, Joan and Raymond Maassen and Arlene and Alvin Hoogendoorn; and one sister-in-law, Henrietta.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John; and one brother-in-law, William Van Voorst.

Memorials may be sent to New Life Treatment Center, Woodstock, Minnesota.

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa | Junaida Dibbet, 89, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carmel Reformed Church in rural Sioux Center, with the Rev. Mark Heijerman officiating. There will be a prayer service at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be prior to the service Friday in Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Junaida Dibbet was born on April 21, 1923, to John B. Mouw and Grace (Van Roekel), in Sioux Center. She was raised on a farm near Sioux Center and attended country school until eighth grade.

On Dec. 17, 1943, Junaida was joined in marriage to Richard Dibbet in Carmel, Iowa. They enjoyed farming on various farms around Sioux Center until they retired and moved into Sioux Center.

Junaida was a lifelong member of Carmel Reformed Church and was active in various women's organizations at the church, as well as teaching Sunday School. She enjoyed volunteering for the Sioux Center School Reading Program. Junaida stayed active by participating in water aerobics. She loved cooking for her family and grandchildren. Junaida's love for music was evident in the way she shared her natural talent, entertaining several times a month in various nursing homes. She could play any song requested by the residents without looking at music.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, James and Gloria Dibbet of Pruderville, Mich., Sharon and Rick Brommer of Rapid City, S.D., Marlin Dibbet of Sioux Center, and David and Deb Dibbet of Sioux Center; son-in-law, Glen Van Zee of Townsend, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; in-laws, Marie Mouw, Mina Mouw, Jack and Priscilla Dibbet, Henrietta "Girlie" Dibbet, all of Sioux Center, Gertrude and John Draayer, Joan Maassen, Alvin and Arlene Hoogendoorn, all of Rock Valley, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin J. Mouw, 71, of Sioux Center, died on Tuesday, November 28, at his home in rural Sioux Center.

Funeral services were at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center on Saturday, December 2, the Rev. Mark De Witt officiating.

Mouw was born to John B. and Grace (Van Roekel) Mouw on July 27, 1924, in Carmel.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Philippines for one year. He married Mina Feekes on September 4, 1945, in Carmel. He was discharged from the Army in 1946.

The couple farmed for 26 years. He also worked for Sioux Implement and Sioux Automation, both in Sioux Center. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon, and the American Legion Doornink-Brunsting Post 199.

He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; five children. Rod and his wife, Harriet, of Longville, Minnesota, Mrs. Dave (Carol) Peterson of Atlantic, Mrs. Mike (Linda) O'Connor of Sioux City, Mrs. Doug (Alicia) Burgers of Longville, Minnesota, and Loren of Swisher; one brother and his wife, Gerald and Katheran of Sioux Center; two sisters, Mrs. Gerritt (Matilda) Sandbulte of Sioux Center and Mr. and Mrs. Rich (Junaida) Dibbet of Sioux Center; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernard (Marie) Mouw of Sioux Center; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Music at the funeral service was provided by Donna Den Herder at the organ, and by Ken Mouw and Irv Mouw, who sang "Some Time, Some Where" and by Ken Mouw and Janet Franke, who sang "1 Will Serve Thee" and "Does Jesus Care." The congregation sang "Through it All."

Casket bearers were Matthew Peterson. Nathan Peterson, David O'Connor. Michael Mouw, Brant Mouw, Pat O'Connor and Nick Burgers.

Honorary bearers were Tyler Mouw, Austin Mouw and Ryan Mouw. Participating in the internment service were the American Legion Post 199 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6129. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
