John Van Engen, 54, died Saturday afternoon at his home north of Sioux Center, Ia. following a lingering illness.
Mr. Van Engen was born at Orange City, on September 23, 1884, where he lived and grew to manhood.
On Feb. 29 1898 (sic!) he married to Miss Tena Van Roekel. Fourteen children were born tot hem. Two of whom preceded him in death, a son Gerrit at the age of four and a daughter Alice, at the age of eight years.
He is survived by his widow and the following children: Abraham of Sheldon. John, Gerrit, George, William and Albert all of Sioux Center, Mrs. J. Baker of Sibley, Mrs. Nick Cupedus of Hull, Mrs. Mitchell Vander Veen of Hull, Johanna, Hermina and Tena, all of Sioux Center.
He is also survived by two brothers, Gerrit Van Engen of Boyden, John Timmer of Rock Rapids, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Lyzen of Alton, Mrs. Henry Ketel of Bigelow, Minn., and Mrs. Henry Den Hartog of Orange City, and also 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Van Engen was engaged in farming, having farmed for 15 years near Alton, eight years near Archer, and the past three years north of Sioux Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 28, 1939, at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Christian Reformed church at Sioux, with the Rev. Mr. J. Haan of Hull officiating assisted by Rev. Mr. J. Aberson of Rock Valley. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tina Van Engen, 75, of Sibley were held June 9 at the Walton's Funeral home and First Reformed church of Sibley. Burial was in the Orange City cemetery.
Mrs. Van Engen passed away Saturday, June 6, at the Osceola Community hospital after a lingering illness.
She was born at Orange City November 8, 1888, to Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Van Roekel. She grew up in Sioux county where she was married to John Van Engen on February 28, 1908.
They farmed in that community until 1925 when they moved to the Archer-Sanborn area. They moved to Sioux Center in 1936. Her husband passed away here on February 25, 1939.
She moved to Sibley in 1944 where she had since resided.
There were 14 children born to this union, three of whom preceded her in death, Gerrit, Alice and William. Also preceding her were her husband, four grandchildren, her parents, four brothers and a sister,
Surviving children are Mrs. Joe (Gertrude) Baker of Worthington Minn., Mrs. Nick (Nancy) Cuperus of Sheldon, Mrs. Mitchell (Clazina) Vander Veen of Sanborn, Abe of Sheldon, John of Orange City, Mrs. Jake (Johanna) Vos of .Sibley, Gerrit of Sioux Center, George of Sibley, Albert of Sanborn, Mrs. Cornie (Hermina) Van Kley of Sanborn, and Mrs. Norman (Tina) Buysman of Estherville.
She is also survived by 41 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; three brothers, George of Sheldon, Tony of Sibley and Henry of Boyden; and two sisters, Mrs. D.J. Fransen of Sibley and Mrs. Harry Rensink of Boyden.

William Van Engen of Sioux Center passed away at the hospital at Anamosa, Ia. very suddenly on Thursday afternoon Jan. 27, 1944 at the age of 20 years and seven months. He had undergone a hernia and tonsil operation and blood clot formed and he passed away very unexpectedly.
He is survived by his mother Mrs. Tena Van Engen and six sisters and five brothers namely Mrs. Joe Bakker of Sibley, Mrs. Nick Cuperus of Sheldon, Mrs. Mitchell Vander Veen of Hull Abe Van Engen of Sheldon, John Van Engen of Sanborn, Mrs. Jake Vos of Sioux Center, Gerrit Van Engen who is in the service at New Guinea, George who is in the service at Camp Maxton, N.C., Albert Van Engen of Sheldon and Mina and Tena Van Engen who make their home at Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister who passed away in infancy and by his father who died in Feb. 1939.
Funeral services were held at the First Chr. Ref. church on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Arnoys officiating. Burial was made in the Orange City cemetery.
George Van Engen arrived home from North Carolina on Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral services.
