Obituaries of Celia, Henry and Adrijanna, sons Abraham and John

Mrs. Henry C. Langstraat died at her home in Sioux Center on Monday, March 20th after a short critical illness with diabetes and complications. She was fifty nine years, eight months and 25 days old.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 23rd at the home at 1 o'clock and at Central Ref. Church in Sioux Center at 1:30 P.M. Rev. Z. Roetman of Orange City will officiate. Interment will take place in Newkirk.

Mrs. Langstraat nee Celia Van Roekel was born near Sioux Center. In 1911 she was married to Henry C. Langstraat of Newkirk where they farmed up until four years ago.

Nine children were born to this union, four of whom preceded their mother in death.

Funeral services for Henry C. Langstraat, 79, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Central Reformed Church. The Rev. Albert Ten Clay officiated. Burial was held in the Newkirk, Iowa, cemetery with the Cooperative Funeral Home of Sioux Center in charge.

Mr. Langstraat was found dead Wednesday in his trailer home by a son and son-in-law who investigated when he failed to come to either of their homes for the noon meal. Mr. Langstraat was born February 21, 1888, in Newkirk.

He married Celia Van Roekel in 1911 at Newkirk. They farmed near Newkirk until 1946 when they moved to Alton, Iowa. She died in 1950.

Services Sat. for Mrs. H. Langstraat

Funeral services for Mrs. H.C. Langstraat , 81, were held Saturday, March 7 at 1:30 at the First Reformed church. Rev. R. Van Heukelom officiated and Pallbearers were Harry Vande Vegte, Jack Kroon, Marvin Kroon, Alexander Roos, Henry W. Langstraat and Roger Visser.

Mrs. John Brantsen was the organist, accompanying the soloist John E. Vander Schaaf, who sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "We Are Going Down the Valley". The congregation sang, "The 42nd Psalm."

Mrs. Langstraat passed away Wednesday, March 4, Death was due to heart failure.

She was born Adriana Addink on March 2, 1883, in Orange City, and lived most of her life in this area.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Van Grevenhof, and her son, Jake Van Grevenhof.

She is survived by her husband, H.C. Langstraat and five stepchildren.

Abraham Langstraat, 23 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Langstraat of Newkirk, died last Tuesday afternoon at his home, after having been in ill health for over a year. He recently underwent an operation for ruptured appendix and had partially recovered when complications, including liver infection, set in.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at one o'clock at the home and at one thirty at the Newkirk Reformed church. Burial was made in the Newkirk cemetery.

Abraham Lanstraat was born Nov. 7, 1915, at Newkirk. He received his education in the Newkirk consolidated school.

Abraham Langstraat, 23, died at his home, Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5, 1939 folowing a lingering illness. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Langstraat and was born Nov. 7, 1915 in Capel township, Sioux county where he had always lived. He had worked on the farm until he became sick.

Those of whom preceded him in death are his brothers Wilbur, 3 weeks old; John, 16 years; and a sister Lucille, 9 months.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept 8, 1939 at 1:00 p.m. from the residence and at 1:30 p.m. from the First Reformed church of Newkirk, Iowa. The Reverend Mr. Z. Roetman officiated. Burial was in the Newkirk cemetery.

Obituary

John Langstraat, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Langstraat of Newkirk, passed away Monday morning, April 20th, at the age of sixteen years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon in the Newkirk church with Rev. Z. Roetman officiating. Interment will take place in the Newkirk cemetery.

He was born on November 30, 1919, on the farm now occupied by Jake Ver Hoef, and lived there until last spring when the family moved to the farm just south of that place. He was a junior in the Newkirk high school and attended school until April 8th, the day on which he underwent an operation.

John was greatly liked by all who knew him or came in contact with him and his passing will leave an empty place in the community and school. He was a valuable member of the basketball and diamond ball teams and was an honor student.

A brother and sister died in infancy.

Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

Johnny H. Langstraat, seventeen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Langstraat, two and a half miles north of Newkirk, died as a result of complications, including pneumonia, as the result of a bursted appendix. He took ill two weeks ago Wednesday and died on Monday morning at ten o'clock. Funeral services were held at Newkirk on Thursday at one o'clock at the home, and 1:30 o'clock at the Reformed church.

He had been active in Newkirk high school activities, and was center on the star basketball team. He was six feet five inches in height, and considered one of the best all round athletes in the country. His personality was pleasant and he leaves a host of friends to mourn his death.

Obituaries of Cornelia and Ethel

Case Langstraat, 64, Sioux Center, died Jan. 10 in a Sioux Center hospital of a long illness. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Central Reformed Church. The Rev. Wesley Kiel officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery under direction of Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Langstraat was born Nov. 14, 1912 near Newkirk. He married Ethel Kastein on March 11, 1938 at Hospers. They resided a year at Sibley, then moved to Sioux Center.

Ethel W. Langstraat, 79, of Sioux Center died Sunday, December 20, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Services were Wednesday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, the Rev. Dennis Wilcox officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.

She was born October 8, 1913, in rural Hospers, the daughter of William and Minnie (Vos) Kastein. She attended school in the rural Hospers area. On March 11, 1938, she married Case Langstraat of Newkirk, at the home of her parents in rural Hospers.

The couple lived a year in rural Sibley before moving to a farm at Sioux Center. They farmed until his death in 1977. She then moved into Sioux Center and retired into the Homestead in 1985.

She was a member of Central Reformed Church, the Reformed Church Women's Group and the Golden Age Society.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mae Vander Wilt; and a brother, Gerhard Kastein.

Obituary of Arthur

Sander Roos was born May 30, 1910 to Gerrit and Hattie Roos at Hospers, Iowa. He married Angelina Langstraat on February 21, 1936. They farmed in Iowa until March 1941. They moved to Minnesota and farmed south of Chandler until 1974, remaining on the farm until moving to town in July, 1990.

Sander entered the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone, Minnesota in September, 1990. He remained there until his death May 6, 1991. He was 80 years, 11 months and 5 days when he went to be with the Lord, after a lingering illness of cancer.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Angelina, and children: Gladys Bodewitz of Calif.; Henry of Calif.; Helene Wakeman of Hawarden, Iowa; Alex of Marshall, Minn.; Alvina Pool of Calif.; and Larry of Pipestone, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Dick of Sheldon, Iowa and John of Primghar, Iowa and 1 sister Esther Van Meeteren of Sheldon, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 3 sisters, his parents and an infant daughter.

Obituaries of Wilbur and Wilma

Wilbur Langstraat went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 2, 2010. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Wilbur was born on March 20, 1924 in Sioux County, Iowa. He served two years in active duty in the army during World War II. Wilbur attended Northwest Junior College in Iowa.

He moved to Washington in 1946 and attended Success Business College in Bellingham. Wilbur was a devoted U.S. Postal Service worker for 28 years, retiring in 1988. In these past five years, Wilbur served as a volunteer and mentor for Christian Health Care Center.

On August 20, 1948 he married Wilma Dykstra in Lynden, WA. Wilbur and Wilma raised six children and just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Wilbur was very involved with Maranatha Press and partnered with Marvin TenKley in ministry, printing and sending literature to Nigeria and other countries overseas for many years. Wilbur was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Henry C. and Celia (Van Roekel) Langstraat; infant siblings, Wilbur and Lucille; sisters, Nancy and Angie; and brothers, Casey, Dutch, Johannas and Abe.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma(Dykstra) Langstraat; children, Jed (Pam) Langstraat, Jerryl (Dawn) Langstraat, Nancy (Marty) Gering, Mark (Maddy) Langstraat, Jana (George) Beanblossom and Kurt (Gwen) Langstraat; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mona Noteboom and Marie Smith; and numerous other loving relatives.

Wilbur will always be remembered for his undying love and trust in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his passion for sharing his faith with everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.

Wilma Langstraat went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 10. She passed away in the presence of loved ones at the age of 91.

Born in Hospers, Iowa on Jan. 19, 1923 to Klaas and Grace (Hulst) Dykstra. Wilma's early years were spent in Iowa, the youngest child in a family of 9 children.

In her teens, she moved to Lynden and graduated from Lynden High School. During WWI, Wilma moved to California for a time, where she worked for Douglas Aircraft. She returned to Lynden, and worked in the office of Dr. Rowe.

Wilma married Wilbur Langstraat in 1948, and turned her focus to her home and family.

Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wilbur, in 2012; four sisters; and two brothers.

Wilma is survived by her children, Jed (Pam), Jerryl (Dawn), Nancy (Marty) Gering, Mark (Maddy), Jana (George) Beanblossom, Kurt (Gwen), all of Lynden; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Ramona Noteboom ,of Lynden, and Marie Smith, of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was held April 12. A Memorial Service will be held at North County Christ the King in Lynden, on April 26, at 1p.m.

The family thanks the staff at Christian Health Care Center for their loving care of Wilma for the past five months. Memorials are suggested for Christian Health Care Center.
