Obituary of Louis and Hermina

Rev. Louis Bouma, 94, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, July 13, 1994 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital Health Center. Services were held Saturday, July 16 at 11:15 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, Sioux Center. Rev. Daniel De Groot and Rev. Arthur Schoonveld officiated. Interment was in Hope Cemetery, Hull under direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center.

Louis was born on Oct. 25, 1899 in Hull to Otto and Trientje (Heeringa) Bouma. He graduated from Northwestern Academy, Grundy Academy, Calvin College and Calvin Seminary.

On July 30, 1926 he married Hermina Van Roekel in Hull. Rev. Bouma taught for 10 years in Chicago. He was pastor of churches in Artesia and Ontario, Calif.; Inwood, Sussex, N.J.,and Dispatch, Kan. In 1969 he retired in Sioux Center.

He was a member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

He loved to read and garden, and enjoyed traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Hermina Bouma, 94, of Sioux Center died on Thursday, May 23, at Sioux Center Community Health Center. A family service was at 9:45 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with burial at Hope Cemetery in Hull. A memorial service was today, Tuesday, at 11:15 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Daniel De Groot officiating.

Mrs. Bouma was born on August 16, 1901, in Ogilvie, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Katharine (Stadt) Van Roekel. She was graduated from high school at Hull and attended Grundy College in Grundy Center. She taught at Hull and Perkins in Iowa and Munster Christian Schools in Munster, Indiana.

She married Louis Bouma on July 30, 1926, in Hull. The couple lived in Chicago for 10 years where he taught school. They then moved to Artesia, California; Ontario, California; Inwood; Sussex, New Jersey; and Dispatch, Kansas. In 1969, they retired in Sioux Center. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bouma was a member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She enjoyed crafts, handwork and playing and teaching piano.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters and a grandson.
