Final Rites Will fie Held Here Today for Mrs. Clara Hulstein

Dies Sunday at Her Home Here

Funeral services will be held today, (Thursday) at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethel Christian Reformed church for Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Hulstein, who died Sunday at her home in Sioux Center. She was 64 years of age.

Rev Wesley Smedes will officiate and burial will be made in the Sioux Center cemetery under the direction of the Co-operative Funaral Service.

Mrs. Hulstein was born in the Netherlands on January 12, 1894, the daughter of Evert Vermeer and Gertrude Rickers. At the age of 16 she came to America.

She was united in marriage on December 23, 1914, to Cornelius G. Hulstein, and to this union ten children were born. All of her married life was spent in Sioux Center, except for two years spent at Hawarden.

Survivors include the widower and eight children: Gerrit of Sheldon; Gertrude (Mrs. Albert Brunsting) of Hawarden; Edward of Fort Atkinson, Wisc.; Raymond of Sioux City; Cornelia (Mrs. John Wiersma) and Esther (Mrs. Henry Lems) both of Fort Atkinson, Wisc.; Harold of Lake Park, Ia.; and Shirley (Mrs. Darrell Hartman) who is staying at home.

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; two brothers, Case Vermeer of Rock Valley and Henry Vermeer of Sumas, Wash.; and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Brunsting, of Hull.

Preceding Mrs. Hulstein in death were her parents, one daughter (who died in infancy), a son, Harold (sixteen months), four grandchildren, one sister (Mrs. Wm. Lockhorst), and one brother, John Vermeer.

Mrs. Hulstein was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed church.

Funeral held Jan. 30 for C.G. Hulstein

Funeral services were held at Central Reformed Church here at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, for Cornelius G. Hulstein, 81, well-known retired farmer, and a life-long resident of the community, who died at the Sioux Center Community Hospital January 27.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Wesley Kiel and burial was in Sioux Center Memory Gardens with the Co-operative Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hulstein was born near Sioux Center November 26, 1891.

He married Clara Vermeer at Hull December 23, 1914. She died August 24, 1958.

On November 3, 1960, Mr. Hulstein was married to Anna Van Muyden in Sioux Center.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Gerrit of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., Raymond of Hull and Harold of Hartley; four daughters, Mrs. Albert (Gertrude) Brunsting of Hawarden, Mrs. John (Cornelia) Wiersma of Ft. Atkinson, Neb., Mrs. Darrel (Shirley) Hartman of Maurice and Mrs. Adolph (Esther) Trauig of Sioux City; five stepsons, Peter and Marvin Van Muyden of Sioux Center, Lester Van Muyden of Hull, Milton Van Muyden of Des Moines and Glen Van Muyder of Sacramento, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Glen (Margaret) Brinkhuis of Sacramento, Mrs. Gerben (Ethyl) Gerritson of Doon and Mrs. John (Leona) Mulder of Sioux Center; three brothers, William and Steven Hulstein of Sioux Center and Raymond of Edgerton, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. George Lihudis, Sioux Center; 31 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 20 step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Central Reformed Church here at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 6, for Mrs. C. G. Hulstein, 80, of Sioux Center, who died at the Sioux Center Community Hospital February 2, just six days after the passing of her husband on January 27.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Wesley Kiel and burial was in Sioux Center Memory Gardens under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hulstein, the former Anna Bonnema was born April 18, 1892.

She was married to Cornelius Van Muyden January 8, 1913. He died October 19, 1954.

She was married to Cornelius Hulstein November 3, 1960.

Survivors include five sons, Peter and Marvin Van Muyden of Sioux Center, Lester Van Muyden of Hull, Milton Van Muyden of Des Moines and Glen Van Muyden of Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Margaret) Brinkhuis of Sacramento, Mrs. Gerben (Ethel) Gerritson of Doon and Mrs. John (Leona) Mulder of Sioux Center; three stepsons, Gerrit of Ft. Atkinson. Wis., Raymond of Hull and Harold of Hartley; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Albert (Gertrude) Brunsting of Hawarden, Mrs. John (Cornelia) Wiersma of Atkinson, Neb., Mrs. Darrel (Shirley) Hartman of Maurice and Mrs. Adolph (Esther) Trauig of Sioux City; a brother, Ben Bonnema, of Orange City; a sister, Mrs. John Oliver, of Sioux Center.

Shirley Joyce Hartman, 68, of Maurice died Thursday, July 20, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City. Funeral services were Monday at First Reformed Church of Maurice at 10:30 a.m. Interment was at the Sherman Township Cemetery of Maurice.

Mrs. Hartman was born January 23, 1938, to Cornelius and Elizabeth (Vermeer) Hulstein at Hawarden. Her family settled near Sioux Center where she attended school. On August 8, 1957, she married Darrell Gene Hartman in Sioux Center. They made their home in Amarillo, Texas, and later In Maurice where Shirley worked at the Million Dollar Lunch and the Maurice Cafe. Over the years she had been active with the Maurice Booster Club and assisted with the Maurice Centennial celebration. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities. She looked forward to the camping season each year, when she and Darrell would spend time at Yankton or the Lakes. She also was an active collector of porcelain dolls.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Darrell; three daughters, Clara, Bonnie and Pamela; a son, Jeff; nine grandchildren; a sister, Cornelia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Gerrit Hulstein, Raymond Hulstein, Edward Hulstein, Harold Hulstein and an infant brother; and three sisters, Gertrude Brunsting, Esther Lems and infant sister.

Darrell Hartman, 73, of Maurice, IA died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30AM at First Reformed Church of Maurice, IA. Interment will follow the service in Sherman Township Cemetery of Rural Maurice.

Darrell Gene Hartman was born March 16, 1937 to William and Bernice (Whitmeier) Hartman at Le Mars, IA. Darrell attended grade school in Le Mars and graduated from Pierson High School.

On August 8, 1957 he was united in marriage to Shirley Hulstein in Sioux Center. Darrell and Shirley were blessed with four children. They made their home in Amarillo, TX, from 1957-1961, while Darrell served in the United States Air Force. The couple later moved to Maurice, IA where Darrell drove truck for many years. Darrell worked as a dispatcher from 1980 until his retirement in 2008.

Over the years, Darrell had been active with the Maurice Booster Club and assisted with the Maurice Centennial celebration. Darrell loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and outdoor activities. He looked forward to the camping season each year, when he and Shirley would spend time at Yankton or the Lakes. Darrell also was an active collector of toy trucks and enjoyed woodworking.

Left to cherish his memory are three daughters: Clara, Bonnie and Pamela; a son, Jeff; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Darrell is also survived by a sister, Jackie; brother, Jerry and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darrell was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Hartman; his parents and one brother, Bill Hartman.
