Obituaries of Cornelia and Leonard

Cornelia Punt, 96, of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, August 8. Services were Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

The former Cornelia Hulstein was born May 5, 1894, at Sioux Center. She lived her youth in the Sioux Center area and attended country school there. She married Leonard "Lane" Punt on January 16, 1916, at Sioux Center.

After their marriage they farmed with his father and then farmed southwest of Sioux Center until 1952 when they semi-retired and moved to an acreage. They moved into Sioux Center in 1965. She was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church and attended ladies' society for many years.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Anna Irene Van Marel of Orange City; two sisters. Grace Granstra of Ocheyedan and Henrietta Kiel of Sheldon; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Leonard G. "Lane" Punt
May 29, 1894 - September 30, 1993

Leonard "Lane" Punt of Sioux Center died Thursday, September 30, af the Sioux Center community Health Center.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 4, at Faith Christian Reformed Church; Sioux Center, with the Rev. Harold Lenters officiating.

Punt was born May 29, 1894, in Sioux Center, the son of Gerrit and Irene (Van Dis) Punt. He spent his youth in Sioux Center, completing school through the eighth grade.

He married Cornelia Hulstein at Carmel on January 20, l9l6. The couple farmed near Sioux Center.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He enjoyed training horses, fishing and wrestling.

Survivors include his daughter, Anna Van Marel of Orange City; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Winnie; son-in-law Irwin Van Marel; and two brothers.

Obituaries of Irwin and Anna

Irwin John Van Marel, 68, of Orange City, died Sunday in a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 1:30 p;m. Tuesday in the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Cecil Martens officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens in Sioux Center. Family visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Mr. Van Marel was born July 22, 1916 in Orange City.

He married Ann Punt on June 12, l944, at Sioux Center. They farmed in Sioux Center, before moving to Orange City in 1966. During.semi-retirement he was owner and operator of the Trading Post in Orange City.

Mr. Van Marel was a member of the First Reformed Church. He was a veteran of World War II and was a former member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Carol) Bylsma of Hull; one son, Ivan of Corsica, S.D.; two brothers, Arie of Steen, Minn, and William of Orange City; four sisters, Mrs. Bill (Irene) Te Slaa and Mrs. Gerrit (Gertrude) Te Slaa, both of Hull, Mrs. Fred (Mabel) Cleveringa and Mrs. Clarence (Cynthia) Clevering, both of Sioux Center; and four grandchildren.

ANNA I. VAN MAREL

Mrs. Anna Van Marel, age 85, of Orange City, passed away Sunday, July 28, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, July 31, at 10:00 a.m., at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Anna Irene was born December 29, 1916, in rural Sioux Center, the daughter of Leonard G. and Cornelia (Hulstein) Punt. She was raised on farms in the Sioux Center area.

On June 12, 1944, she married Irwin John Van Marel at Sioux Center. They farmed in the Carmel and Sioux Center areas. In 1966, they moved to Orange City. Irwin passed away October 27, 1984, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

On March 18, of this year, "Ann" became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the farm. She had been employed by Groschopp in Sioux Center and Otis Radio in Hawarden. She was also a representative for cosmetics and clothing, including Minnesota Woolen Mills and Stanley Products.

Mrs. Van Marel was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's activities, especially volunteering at Tulip Time. She enjoyed cooking and was known for baking delicious pies. She also liked to crochet and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Grateful to have shared her life are her daughter and her husband, Carol and Bernard Bylsma, of Maurice; her son and his wife, Irwin and Sharon Van Marel, of Corsica, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Dr. Leanne Bylsma-Mulder, and her husband, Jim Mulder, of Sioux Center; Clarissa, and her husband, Scott Van Binsbergen, of Montevideo, Minnesota; Jason Van Marel, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and his fiance, Heidi Daniels; and Leah Van Marel, of Corsica; three great-grandchildren, Jamie and Lane Mulder, and Whitney Van Binsbergen; and numerous close friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her 17 day-old sister, Winnie Punt.
