On April 9, 1903 they left Utrecht, Netherlands for the United States and since that time have resided near Maurice.
Left to mourn his death are four children namely: Herman of North Holland, Michigan; Nellie, Mrs. A. Sneller of Sioux Center; Teunis of Maurice and Henry of Sheldon, also 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1 o'clock in the Teunis Maassen home and at 1:30 in the First Reformed Church.

Mrs. John Maassen, Sr., of Maurice passed away at 12:15 A.M., Monday, October 12 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Andrew Sneller of Sioux Center. Mrs. Maassen, nee Gertrude Vande Weerd was born on December 14, 1853 at Ede, Netherlands and died at the age of 88 years and 10 months. Thirty-nine years ago she with her husband and family came to America.
She is survived by her husband, 3 sons, Herman of North Holland, Michigan, Teunis of Maurice and Henry of Sheldon and one daughter, Nellie, Mrs. Andrew Sneller of Sioux Center. She is also survived by 2 brothers John and Herman Vander Weerd.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Andrew Sneller home and 2 o'clock in the First Reformed Church at Maurice. Interment was made in the Sherman Township Cemetery.
