Cornelius Wassink Laid To Rest Monday, December 17

Mr. Cornelius Wassink passed away last Thursday morning, December 13th, at 3:20, at his home here in Hull, at the age of 70 years.

Mr. Wassink was born in Arnhem, Holland, on March 26, 1881.

He was married to Jane Van Maanen on a farm southwest of Hull and spent most of their life farming in the Sioux Center territory, and moved to Hull in the spring of 1945.

To this union six children were born, of whom four preceded him in death, Arend at the age of 16 years in 1924, Mina at the age of 14 in 1926, Cornie, 2 months old m 1928, and Bert at the age of 14 in 1937.

He is survived by his widow and two children, Nellie Mrs. John Brummel, of Hull, and Arend of Sioux Center, and six grandchildren, one brother, Arend of Saranac, Michigan, and two sisters, Elsie, Mrs. John Broek of Sioux Center and Bertha, Mrs. Albert Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 17, at 1 o'clock from the house and 1:30 from the Protestant Reformed Church in Hull, with Rev. John De Jong in charge. Pall bearers were the nephews, Arend W. Wassink, Ed Berghorst, David J. Broek, Raymond Rens, Tom De Jong and Bert Van Maanen. Burial was in the Sioux Center cemetery.

Funeral Services For Mrs. C. Wassink Were Held Saturday At Hull

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Cornelius Wassink, Saturday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. from the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa. Burial was in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery under the direction of the Cooperative Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Wassink, the former Jennie Van Maanen, daughter of Bart and Mina Van Maanen was born in the Netherlands on November 7, 1885. She lived her youth and attended school in Sioux County, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Cornelius Wassink on March 6, 1907, in Sioux Center, Iowa. Their entire married life was lived around Sioux Center until they retired and moved to the town of Hull, Iowa. She had spent the last 4 years in the Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Wing.

She passed away at die Sioux Center Community Hospital on February 27, 1969, at the age of 83 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Nellie (Mrs. John Brummel) of Hull, Iowa and one son, Arend, of Sioux Center, Iowa, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; five sisters, Hattie, (Mrs, Gerb De Jong) ofHull, Iowa; Grace (Mrs. Conrad Hulstein) of Sioux Center, Iowa; Mina, (Mrs, John Rens) of Hull; Winnie, (Mrs, Henry Vis) of Hull; and Alberta (Mrs. Ben Bleyenberg) of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, on December 13, 1951; 4 children, Arend in 1924 at the age of 16, Mina in 1926 at the age of 14, Cornelius in 1928 at the age of 2 mos,, and Bert in 1937 at the age of 14; two brother, Ed and John; and two sisters, Ann (Mrs. Henry Berghorst) and Gert, (Mrs. Tim Rens).

She was a member of the Protestant Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa.

Arend Wassink, aged 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Wassink of Sioux Center, died February 26th from injuries received when he was shelling corn that day.

Mr. Wassink and the boy were using a Ford for power when they were shelling. He was in the act of putting a basket of corn into the grinder when the fly wheel flew to pieces, parts of the wheel striking the boy. He was struck in the chest by the flying pieces and one hand was almost severed. He fell backwards into his father's arms in an unconscious condition. He was taken to the hospital in Hull but nothing could be done to save his life as his heart had been injured in the accident.

14 Year Old Boy Dies

Bert Wassink of Sioux Center Victim of Blood Disease

Bert Wassink, 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Wassink of Sioux Center died at his home Tuesday from a blood ailment.

He has been a patient in the Le Mars hospital but had been returned home before his death. He is survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.

The funeral will be held Friday from the Second Christian Reformed church with interment in the Sioux Center cemetery.

JOHN BRUMMEL, 38

John Brummel of Hull passed away at the St. Marys hospital at Rochester, Minn., on Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, after a number of operations for a malignant brain tumor. He had been hospitalized since Oct. 26.

Mr. Brummel was born May 21, 1914, and was 38 years, 5 months, and 22 days at the time of his passing.

He was united in marriage to Nellie Wassink on Feb. 16, 1940 in Sioux Center.

To this union were born three children, Andrew Duane, 10 years; Jane Audrey, 6 years; and Cornie Le Roy, 4 years to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

Besides these he leaves his mother, Mrs. Andrew Brummel of Hull, three brothers and one sister, Joe of Woodstock, Minn.; Delia , Mrs. Dowie Vander Schaaf, of Newaygo, Mich.; Gerrit and Ralph of Hull.

His father and one brother preceded him in death. His father died Nov. 13, 1951, and his brother Albert, Feb. 17, 1952. His grandmother died Nov. 7, 1952.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Reformed church at Hull, with Rev. John De Jong, pastor of the Prot. Reformed church, officiating. Burial was at Hope Cemetery with Coop Burial Association in charge.

Pallbearers were six neighbors, John Boote, Jr., Gerald Den Herder, George Vande Garde , Wm. Te Slaa, Wm. Van Sloten, and Gerrit Te Slaa.

Nellie Brummel, 86, of Hull died Thursday, May 8, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at Protestant Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Steven R. Key officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery.

Nellie (Wassink) Brummel, the daughter of Cornelius and Jane (Van Maanen) Wassink, was born October 24, 1916, in Sioux Center.

She married John Brummel on February 16, 1940. The couple farmed south of Hull. He died November 12, 1952.

She had been a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center for the past three years. She was a member of Protestant Reformed Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Duane and Audrey Brummel of Hull and Cornie and Edie Brummel of Byron Center, Michigan; a. daughter and her husband, Jane and Ted Pipe of Alto, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Arend and Sally Wassink of Sioux Center.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arend, Bert and Cornelius Wassink; and a sister, Mina Wassink,
