Rites Held for Henry P. Vis, 76, of Hull

Funeral services for Henry P. Vis, 76, a lifelong Hull area resident, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Reformed Church. The Rev. Willard DeVries officiates. Burial was in Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Cooperative Funeral Home of Sioux Center, Iowa.

Mr. Vis died unexpectedly Wednesday at a Sioux Center hospital.

He was born Jan. 5, 1891, in Hull, and married Winnie Van Maanen Dec. 11, 1919, at Sioux Center.

Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Pete Destigter of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Bernard Stuit of Modesto, Calif., three sons, Pete of Rock Rapids, Henry of Hull and Butt of Rock Valley; four sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Dykstra and Mrs. John Andela, both of Hull, Mrs. August Smit of Boyden, and Mrs. Leo De Zoet of Chino, Calif.; and 26 grandchildren.

Mrs. Henry P. (Winnie) Vis, 89, of Hull died Friday at a nursing home in Sioux Center. Services were held on Tuesday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull.

Winnie Vis, daughter of Bart and Mina Van Maanen, was born in Sioux Center on Aug. 3, 1899. She lived her youth and attended school in Sioux Center.

On Dec. 17, 1919 she was united in marriage to Henry P. Vis at Sioux Center. Their entire married life was spent in the Hull vicinity. Her husband died on Dec, 20, 1967.

She moved to Sioux Center nursing wing in Dec. 1987. Mrs. Vis was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull and a member of the Helping Hand Society.

She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Pete (Myna) De Stigter of Sioux Center and Mrs. Bernard (Hendrene) Stuit of Modesto, CA, one son, Henry, of Hull and one sister, Mrs. Ben Bleyenberg of Sioux Center and 26 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Peter and Bert.

Obituary of Louise Punt

Married Peter H. Vis on Feb.25. 1949 at her parents home. The couple lived in Rock Rapids, IA and were blessed with four children; Jan, Howard, Craig and Daryl.

She was a member and volunteer of many charities especially with the local Christian School. She was also involved with the C.O.R.A. program which helped immigrant families assimilate to life in the local community. She volunteered for 22 years for Lyon County Hospice, four years as Lyon County Cancer Crusade Chairperson the the THEO'S program.

Louise is survived by her four children; Jan Tiesler, Howard (Sue) Vis, Craig (Deb) Vis and Daryl (Lisa) Vis of Rock Rapids, IA; eleven grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; Evelyn Vis; and a brother-in-law, Bernard.

She died at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services are atthe Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA.

Obituaries of Peter and Myna

Peter De Stigter, 80, of Sioux Center died Monday, September 25, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. John Witvliet officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. Family visitation is Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Sioux Center.

De Stigter was born August 1, 1920. in Sioux Center to Lane and Barbara (Visser) De Stigter. He married Myna Vis on May 19, 1948, at Hull. He was in the construction business and was a partner in De Stigter Brothers Construction Company. He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and baseball.

Survivors include his wife, of Sioux Center; children and their spouses, Harlan and Jolene De Stigter of Orange City, Ronald De Stigter of Canton, South Dakota, Winette and John McEwen of Smithers, British Columbia, Jerome De Stigter of Sioux Center, Berwyn and Beth De Stigter of Lennox, South Cakota, Douglas De Stigter of Sioux Center and Beverly and Don Engler of Fountain Hills, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Leonard De Stigter, Alyda Kosters and Helen Wassenaar, all of Sioux Center, Florence Kalsbeek of Orange City, Cornelius De Stigter of Livonia, Michigan, and Melvin De Stigter and Lucille Poel, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild; three brothers, William, Gilbert and Tunis; and one sister, Ada Schoo.

Myna De Stigter

Myna De Stigter, 86, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. A prayer service for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. The De Stigter family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Christian Schools or Western Christian High School.

Myna De Stigter was born March 9, 1924 to Henry P. and Winnie (Van Maanen) Vis south of Hull, Iowa. She attended Perkins Christian School for seven years before graduating from Hull Christian School.

On May 19, 1948, Myna was joined in marriage to Peter De Stigter in Hull. Myna was a longtime member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She was a part of the Golden Hour women's group. Her family remembers her as one of the first to start making pig-in-a-blanket. Myna enjoyed crocheting, baking and canning the many items from her garden.

Left to cherish her memory are seven children and their spouses: Harlan and Jolene De Stigter of Orange City; Ronald De Stigter of Canton, SD; Winette and John Mc Ewen of Smithers, British Colum¬bia; Jerome De Stigter of Sioux Center; Berwyn and Beth De Stigter of Lennox, SD; Douglas and Lorie De Stigter of Sioux Center and Beverly and Robin Miller of Gilbert, AZ; sixteen grandchil¬dren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Evelyn Vis of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Louise Vis of Rock Rapids; brother-in-law, Bernard Stuit of Ripon, CA. Obituary of Hendrene

Hendrene Struit, 83, went peacefully to her eternal home on July 19, 2010.

She was born to Henry and Winnie Vis in Hull, Iowa on August 11, 1926, and married Bernard Stuit in February of 1948.

They lived for 60 years in Modesto, and the last 2 years in Ripon. Hendrene was a homemaker, who devoted her life to her Lord and Savior, to her church, her family and friends, and to serving others. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a very giving person.

Hendrene was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Pete Vis and Bert Vis. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bernard Stuit, their 7 daughters, Myna (Ron) Gandy of Riverbank, Helen (Pete) Bakker, Cheryl (Don) Gann, Marlys (Chuck) De Jong, and Joyce (Henry) Van de Pol of Modesto, Melinda (Larry) Van Nieuwenhuyzen of Ripon, and Melissa (Justin) Gardner of Bakersfield; 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; sister Myna De Stigter and brother Henry (Evelyn) Vis, both of Sioux Center, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary of Alice Eshuis

Mrs. Bert Vis, 59, of Rock Valley, died Friday, June 27, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after a brief illness. Services were held June 30 at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley, with the Rev. Edward J. Knott officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral Home.

Alice Vis was born January 11, 1921, at Ireton. On October 7, 1949, she married Bert Vis.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Harold, and one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Mary) Van Egdom, both of Rock Valley. Also five grandchildren and her mother, Mrs. Martha Eshuis of Sioux Center. Also two brothers, Adolph of Rock Valley and Cornelius of Orange City; and six sisters, Mrs. Ben (Jess) Voetberg, Mrs. James (Etta) Driesen, Mrs. James (Margene) Kooima and Mrs. Ron (Geri) Koldenhoven, all of Rock Valley, Mrs. Marion (Freida) De Haas of Grangeville, Idaho and Mrs. Bryon [or Byron] (Anna Mae) Bruinsma of Sioux Center.

Obituary of Henry

Henry Vis, age 85, of Sioux Center, IA, died Monday, August 7, 2017, at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center. Memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 10th at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Rev. Roger Sparks officiating. Prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 1:00PM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7PM, with the family present at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Henry Willis Vis was born on October 3, 1931 at the family farm near Hull, Iowa. He was the son of Henry and Winnie (Van Maanen) Vis. He attended country school, Hull Christian School, and Western Christian High. After high school he joined his parents with the day to day operation of the farm. He enjoyed using his natural ability to resolve or repair almost anything,

On July 27, 1951 Henry was united in marriage to Evelyn Joyce De Jong. They raised their six daughters on the family farm. In 1975 Henry fulfilled their dream to build a new home and farmstead, largely by himself. In 1982 Henry and Evelyn stepped out in faith and started and operated Vis Auto Sales from his residence and later re-located the business to Perkins’ Corner. In 2004 Henry and Evelyn moved to a home in Sioux Center, IA.

Henry was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull, active as a Deacon, an Elder, and Cadet Counselor; and later became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He also volunteered in M2 prison ministry in Sioux Falls, SD. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking. He was a man of many talents. There was no project he was not willing to try. He will be remembered as a loving and patient man, who enjoyed sharing his skills with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by Evelyn, his loving wife of 65 years, six daughters; Lori (Mark) Stuck of Sioux City, IA; Kay (Rick) De Boom of Sioux Center, IA; Elinor (Dave) Punt of Sioux Center, IA; Gayle (Curt) Groen of Dalhart, TX; Dianne (Milt) Van Ravenswaay of Sioux Center, IA; and Lisa (Doug) Van Gorp of Pella, IA; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; and many other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents; a son, Dennis Henry; a granddaughter, Melissa Groen; a grandson, Micah Groen; two brothers; two sisters; and three brothers-in-law.

The Vis family prefers memorials to: Sioux Center Christian School and Western Christian High School
