Albertus Hulstein, 65, of Rock Rapids died Friday, April 8, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids.
Hulstein was born February 12, 1923, in Carmel. He married Artie Hop April 10, 1947, in Steen, Minnesota. They farmed in Rock Rapids until 1954, when they moved to Beaver Creek, Minnesota. In 1965 they moved to Edgerton, Minnesota. He retired in 1985 and moved to Rock Rapids.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Conrad of Hardwick, Minnesota; two daughters, Antonette "Nettie" Roskam of Rock Rapids and Gloria Boelman of Aberdeen, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; a brother, Fred of Rock Rapids; and eight sisters, Carolyn De Kam and Etta Baker, both of Rock Valley, Emma Vogel of Currie, Minnesota, Gertrude Vonk of Heron Lake, Minnesota, Viola Langfeldt and Minerva Vander Streek, both of Rock Rapids, and Winerva Hulstein and Myna Nyhof, both of Sioux Center.

Artie Hulstein, age 90 of Rock Rapids died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services held, Monday, January 12, 2009 at the First Reformed Church in Rock with burial at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Artie Hendrika (Hop) Hulstein was born on December 9, 1918, the daughter of Jake Sr. and Antonia (Dibbetts) Hop in Hardereyk, Netherlands. She entered the United States at the age of eighteen months, with her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
They settled on a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa and when Artie turned eight years old they moved to a farm near Rock Rapids. Artie attended country school thru the eighth grade.
On April 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to Albertus John Hulstein in Steen, Minnesota, sharing this experience with her sister Alyda in a double wedding.
Artie and her husband farmed in the Rock Rapids area until 1954 when they moved to Beaver Creek, Minnesota and farmed until 1966. They then moved to Edgerton, Minnesota and farmed there until 1985, when they retired and moved back to Rock Rapids.
On April 8, 1988, Artie's husband died when they were just two days short of their 41st Wedding Anniversary. Albertus passed away at the age of sixty-five.
Artie continued to live in her home until going to live at the Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids in January of 2007.
Artie is survived by three children: Nettie (husband Harvey) Roskam of Rock Rapids, Gloria (husband Bill) Boelman of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Conrad (wife Brenda) Hulstein of Hardwick, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alyda Saeger of Rock Rapids and Tillie Wietzema of Sibley, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: Marie Hop of California and Gerdena Hop of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Gertrude Hop, Jennie Jabaay, Johanna Hop and Christine Van Den Hul; six brothers: Peter Hop, Gerrit Hop, Bernard Hop, Jake Hop, Jake Hop Jr. and Anthony Hop; and a great-grandchild, Nathan Reker.
