Sheldon rites held for Mrs. Ten Kley, victim of stroke.
SHELDON - Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Ten Kley, 72, who died Saturday at the Sheldon hospital after suffering a stroke, were held Wednesday. Rev. Albert Van Dyke officiated and burial was made in East Lawn cemetery at Sheldon.
Mrs. Ten Kley was born July 10, 1887 in The Netherlands.
Survivors include the widower, Albert; three daughters, Mrs. John De Boer of Primghar, Ia., Mrs. Clarence Brink of Ashton, Oa., and Mrs. Harry J. Chase of Wichita, Kan.; four sons, Peter of Holland, Mich., Richard and John of Sheldon, and Henry of Tekamah, Neb., a sister, Mrs. John Den Boer of Rock Valley, Ia.; three brothers, Peter Van Beek of Sioux Center, Ia., Richard Van Beek of Kent, Mich., and Mease Van Beek of Hawarden, Ia.; 24 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
John A. Ten Kley, age 91, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. David Brower and Rev. Gordon Bloomendaal officiating. Burial in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service. The Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service handling arrangements.
John A. Ten Kley was born on May 9, 1915, in Sanborn, Iowa. He was the son of Albert and Nellie (Van Beek) Ten Kley. He lived his youth in the rural Sanborn, Archer, and Sheldon, area, and attended Archer Grade School.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy De Vries of Sheldon, Iowa, on March 15, 1939, in Sheldon. They lived in California, Archer, Lake Park and Sheldon, Iowa. In 1976, they retired from farming and moved to Sheldon. They were substitute managers at the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. John enjoyed fishing with Dorothy, and playing cards with the family. His family and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to him. Dorothy passed away on June 20, 2003.
John was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent in the various churches he was a member. He also served on the Sioux City Gospel Mission Board and the Sheldon Christian School Board, where he served as president. He enjoyed leading Bible Study at Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care and volunteered at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon.
John passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Dennis D. Ten Kley of Spencer, IA, Joyce A. Ver Mulm and husband Marion of Spencer, IA, Stanley J. Ten Kley and wife Janice of Sheldon, IA, Larry A. Ten Kley of Hartley, IA, Marilyn C. Winterboer and husband Cedric of Everly, IA; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Marie Chase and husband Jack of Fairfield Bay, AR.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy; his parents; 2 daughters-in-law: Nelva Ten Kley and Kay Ten Kley; grandson: Gregory Dean Ten Kley; 3 sisters: Margaret De Boer, Evadean Duimstra and Wilhelmina Ten Kley; 4 brothers: Henry, Peter, Dick and Wilmer Ten Kley.

Dorothy Ten Kley, daughter of Peter John and Christina (Bolt) DeVries, was born July 28, 1918 in Lark, North Dakota. She moved to Oglivia, MN at the age of 2 years and moved to Sheldon, Iowa at the age of 5 years. She attended the Sheldon Christian Grade School.
She was united in marriage to John A. Ten Kley of Sheldon, Iowa on March 15, 1939 in Sheldon, Iowa. They had lived in California, Archer, Lake Park, and Sheldon, Iowa. In 1976, they retired from farming and moved to Sheldon.
Dorothy was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she was a member of the Guild and Morning Circle and taught Sunday School and Catechism for many years.
Dorothy enjoyed volunteering at Oak Park Care center and Village Northwest in Sheldon. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, fishing, and spending time in her flower garden. Her family and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to her.
She passed away Friday, June 20, 2003 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; one brother: Arnold John De Vries; two sisters: Jeanette Kraal, Maybelle Dykstra; daughter-in-law: Nelva Ten Kley; grandson: Gregory Dean Ten Kley.
