Margaret (Maggie) was born on November 20, 1953, in New Hampton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mark Homer Baker and Madelyn Anne Baker (née Elscott). Maggie graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1973, then went on to Wartburg College, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy (minor in political science). Maggie then attended the University of Iowa, where she obtained a master's degree in library science.

After graduation, Maggie took a position at the Fort Dodge Public Library, working there until 1987. Thereafter, she took a similar position at the Council Bluffs, Iowa library. Maggie then moved to the Olathe Public Library and spent the remainder of her working career there.

Remaining to cherish Maggie's memory are her brothers, Raymond Baker (Diane), Keith Baker (Ellen), and Daniel Baker (Teri); nephews, Micahael Baker, Kyle Baker, and Travis Baker; nieces, Meredith Baker and Allison Baker.

Maggie was an avid and engaged student of genealogy. She pursued her passion to develop a detailed and meticulously documented family history tracing back to origins in Europe and pre-revolutionary America. Maggie shared her talents with the Johnson County Genealogy Society for over 10 years, serving as their librarian for several years.

Maggie was an avid gardener and cook. She also enjoyed traveling, bicycling, and the outdoors.

Maggie will be long-missed with great sadness by all who know, especially her brothers and their families, her extended family, and friends.
