Alice Joan Muller was born to Fred and Joan Muller on June 23, 1929, at home in Jasper County, Iowa. She received her education at several local schools before graduating from Laurel High School in 1947. She married William John "Bill" Lyle on September 4, 1948, and together they raised three children on their farm near Laurel.

Alice and Bill lived an active life, ranging from when they were avid square dancers in the early 1960s to retirement when they enjoyed attending flea markets, auctions, and traveling to Florida for the winter. They were proud grandparents who took great joy in supporting their grandkids both in Missouri (Josh and Willow) and in Iowa (Sara and Emily).
Alice was an involved member of several local organizations, including the Laurel United Methodist Women, OUR Club, and the Tuesday Study Club. She dedicated her time and talents to making lap quilts, bibs, and other handmade items for nursing homes, quilts for children in crisis situations, as well as sewing school bags for overseas donations. She frequently thought of the needs of others and cared for friends who were in poor health, visiting them and taking them to appointments, even into her nineties.
She is survived by her daughter Gail (Skip) Nichols of Palmyra, Missouri, her son Mark (Jana) Lyle of Haverhill, Iowa, daughter-in-law Mary Kay Lyle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and her friend and neighbor, Jack Sharer.
