On January 10th, 1960, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, he was united in marriage to Myrna Thurston. They made their home in Marshalltown, near Ferguson and in 1965, moved to LeGrand where they have resided ever since.
Neal was employed as a mechanic at Gralnek Motors and Southard Implement as well as owning Neal's Lawn and Garden in LeGrand. Neal was a member of the Carlton Brethren Church being baptized by Pastor John Sholley and will be fondly remembered for his love of his family. He enjoyed bowling with Ray Coulter's bowling team, fishing with family and friends Carroll and Dorothy Fisher, playing cards, hunting and collecting John Deere Memorabilia.
He will be greatly missed by many. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 46 years, Myrna, his children Rod (Lisa) Fehrmann of Montour, daughter Kathy (Dan) Kouba of Melbourne, Sharon and David from a previous marriage, his sister Judy (Ted) Smith of Ferguson and brother Fred (Barb) Fehrmann of Marshalltown, David, Lisa and Tim who resided with Myrna and Neal, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, Myrna's family and a host of friends.
In death he has rejoined his parents, sister Betty Sunkel and grandson, Nathan Kouba.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: David Fehrmann of Drummonds, Tennessee, Sharon Pals, Deb Patterson and William Denison all of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Michael Denison of Marengo, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Clarabelle Hurkman and Ardene McKeag.
In eternal life she will join her husband of 40 years, Charles; her parents, David and Bertha McKeag; her six siblings: David, Gordon, Leonard, Inez, Lena, and Eva; son-in-law Jim Pals and grandson Joe Pals.
Born Myrna Alice Thurston on July 12, 1934, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Jason and Alice (Cooper) Thurston. Myrna was born at the Deaconess Hospital, the first of seven children in her family to not be born at home, which was a big deal. Her father was a teacher and she attended wherever he taught until she went to high school.
Myrna enjoyed spending the summers in Garwin with her cousins, who were all close in age. She graduated from Le Grand High School in 1951 and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.
Myrna married Neal Fehrmann on January 10, 1960. They were married for 46 years before Neal's passing in October 2006. She worked for more than 30 years at Emerson Fisher Controls in the billing department before retiring. Myrna enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with her family and close friends. She was a member of the Carlton Brethren Church.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Daniel) Kouba and Rod (Lisa) Fehrmann; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Ellen (Gary) Batten.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; her parents Jason and Alice; three brothers Gaylen, Larry, and Dennis Thurston; two sisters Shirley Jenkins and Norma McWilliams; grandson, Nathan Kouba; great-grandson Dillon Fehrmann; and her special friends Carol and Dorothy Fisher.

Judy Fehrmann was born on January 6, 1944, in Laurel the daughter of Carl and Areka Wisgerhof Fehrmann. She graduated from Le Grand High School. On July 21, 1962, Judy married Ted Smith in Marshalltown. She was employed at the Marshall County Care Facility for approximately 19 years.
Judy enjoyed reading, gardening and flowers, bird watching, cooking, and helping on the farm when able. Most importantly she enjoyed the time watching her grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ted; children, Debbie (John Reardon) Groves of Ankeny, Mary (Phil) Anderson of Marshalltown, Ted (Yolanda) Smith Jr. of Marshalltown, and Jason Smith of Marshalltown; grandchildren, Alicia (Adam), Sarah, Kelsea, Tyler, Brittany, Seth, and Owen; great-grandchild Paetyn; and her brother Fred (Barb) Fehrmann of Marshalltown.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Areka; granddaughter Channing; and siblings Neal Fehrmann and Betty Sunkle.

Ted Levere Smith was born on November 5, 1939, in Marshalltown. He was the son of Ray [NOTE: Ray was his stepfather] and Ruth (Burgess) Buchanan. Ted served his country honorable in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1962. On July 21, 1962, Ted married Judy Fehrmann in Marshalltown.
Ted had been a farmer and had worked at Kiowa as a machinist and in management. He was a member of the Hardin County Cruisers, NRA, and the Marshalltown Gun Club. He enjoyed going to car and tractor shows, playing cards, and in his earlier years, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and competitive shooting.
Ted is survived by his children, Debbie Groves of Ankeny, Mary (Phil) Anderson of Marshalltown, Ted (Yolanda) Smith Jr. of Marshalltown, and Jason Smith of Marshalltown; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, parents, and his brother, Aaron Smith.
