Sophia was born December 14,1897 at Ede, the Netherlands, daughter of Derk and Gertrui (Rozenboom) Rozeboom. She came to the USA to the Sioux Center, IA area with her family in 1910. Sophia married Anthony (Tony) Roskam Sr. July 7, 1915 at Alvord, IA. Together they farmed in Lyon and Sioux Counties of Iowa until retirement in 1957 when they moved to Rock Valley. Tony died August 16, 1965. Sophia moved to the Valley Manor of Rock Valley January 20, 1988.
Surviving relatives include five sons and their wives, Dick and Tillie of Rock Rapids, IA, Gerrit and Emma of Sioux Center, I A, Tony and Bea of Des Moines, IA, Leonard and Harriet of Hudson, SD, Casey and Muriel of Hospers, IA; six daughters and their husbands, Henrietta and Tony Van Hill of Alvord, IA, Gertrude and Richard Teitsma of Hudsonville, MI, Gertie Dumond of Spencer, IA, Elizabeth Vander Weide of Sioux Center, IA, Sophia and John Zomer of Doon, IA, Hilda and Jake Van Voorst of Lester, IA; 52 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Sophia was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; brothers, Lane, Bill, and Gerrit Rozeboom; sisters, Elizabeth Van Den Top and Wilhelmina Klarenbeek; grandchild, Henry James Kuiper, and six great-grandchildren.

Mr Roskam was born May 27, 1885, in The Netherlands and came to the United States at an early age. He married Sophia Rozeboom July 7, 1915 at Alvord and they farmed in that area until retiring to Rock Valley in 1957. Mr and Mrs Roskam observed their Golden Wedding anniversary July 7 of this year.
Survivors include the widow, six daughters, Mrs Tony Van Hill of Alvord, Mrs John Kuiper of Hudsonville, Mich., Mrs Gertie Dumond of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Jake Van Voorst of Lester, and Mrs John Vander Weide and Mrs John Zomer, both of Sioux Center. Five sons, Dick of Rock Rapids, Gerrit of Sioux Center, Anthony Jr. of Des Moines, Leonard of Hawarden, and Cornie of Hospers; one sister in Holland; 37 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leonard was born on December 23, 1930 in Lyon County, IA to Anthony and Sophia
(Rozeboom) Roskam.
He married Harriet Van RavenHorst on May 25, 1954 in Sioux Center, IA.
The family lived and farmed in Lyon and Sioux County before moving to a farm north of
Hudson, SD in 1973.
Leonard retired from farming in 2000.
The couple moved to Canton in 2013 due to Leonard's failing health.
Leonard enjoyed horse shoe pitching and entered many tournaments.
He is enshrined in the Horse Shoe Hall of Fame.
He also liked to bowl, and later taught himself to bowl and throw horseshoes left-handed
due to his Parkinson's disease.
Leonard was active in his church, sang in the Men's Quartet, and followed his children's
and grandchildren's activities.
He was a member of the Eden Township Board, the Hudson Legion, and supported the Sioux
City Union Gospel Mission.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Harriet; son, Alan Roskam, Minot, ND; daughters, Beth (Ken) Banks, Sioux City, IA, Ruth (Rick) Miller, Canton, SD, Laura (Neil) Warner, Larchwood, IA, and Leah (Jason) Theisen, Valley Springs, SD; daughter-in-law, Michelle (Mike) Ingebrigtson; brother, Gerrit (Emma) Roskam, Sioux Center, IA; sisters, Henrietta Van Hill, Rock Rapids, IA, Sophia (John) Zomer, Sioux Center, IA, and Hilda (Jake) Van Voorst, Lester, IA; sisters-in-law, Bea Roskam, Ankeny, IA and Muriel Roskam, Sheldon, IA; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; special friends, Teri and Randy Mevius; along with numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Daryl and Darwin; sisters, Liz, Gertrude, and Gert; and brothers, Dick, Tony, and Cornie.

Cornie "Casey" Roskam, 62, of Hospers, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 13, 1996 near Storm Lake. Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the First Reformed Church in Hospers. Burial was held at the Hospers Cemetery.
Cornie was born May 24,1933 in Rock Rapids, the son of Anthony and Sophia (Rozeboom) Roskam. On April 6, 1957 he married Muriel Schuller in Hawarden. He served in the armed forces from 1954 to 1956. He was a well known area cattle buyer and was actively involved in the community, serving as a volunteer fireman and an EMT. He also served as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Arlin; three daughters, Rhonda, Tammy and Nancy; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Dick, Gerrit, Tony and Leonard; and six sisters, Henrietta, Gertrude, Gertie, Elizabeth, Sophie and Hilda.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Andrew Roskam.
Muriel RoskamMuriel Roskam, age 79, of Sheldon, formerly of Hospers, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, June 6, at 1:00pm, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Rev. Dr. Brian Janssen will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hospers Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.
Muriel June was born on February 26, 1938, at Ireton, the daughter of John and Frances (Popma) Schuller. She was raised on a farm near Ireton. On April 6, 1957, she married Cornie "Casey" Roskam at Ireton. After a short time in Sioux City, they made their home in Hospers, where she was a homemaker. Casey passed away on March 13, 1996, in Storm Lake, after more than 39 years of marriage.
In 2010, Muriel moved to Sheldon. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In earlier years, she was a pitcher at church softball games. She enjoyed having coffee with her Wednesday group, fixing puzzles, watching sports on television and games in which her grandchildren played, and spending time with her family and a special friend, John Rus.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Arlin and Laura Roskam, of Sioux Center; three daughters, Rhonda and her husband Rick Van Roekel, of Sheldon; Tammy, and her husband, Dan Hatting, of Sioux Falls; and Nancy Roskam and Chad Van Beek, of Spirit Lake; eight grandchildren, Chad (Mandi) Roskam, Amy (Kevin) Summers, Jason (Whitney) Roskam, Jeremy Van Roekel, Eric (Sara) Van Roekel, Christopher Hatting, Jessica Hatting, and Tanner Kroon; five great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Brinley Roskam, Aaron and Blake Summers, and Bria Van Roekel; and a sister, Shirley Van Iperen, of the Iowa Great Lakes area.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Roskam; four sisters, Vera, Leona, Darlene, and Marie; and two brothers, Wayne and Laurence.
Sophia Zomer, 86, of Sioux Center, Iowa died Thursday, July 28, 2022 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the
Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Reverend. H. Hofman officiating.
Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Sophia (Roskam) Zomer was born December 2, 1935 to Anthony and Sophia (nee Rozeboom) Roskam. She was one of 11 children. They lived on a farm near Fairview, South Dakota. She attended country school through 8th grade and then received her high school diploma through the American School. After Sophia's older brothers were drafted to the military and served in war time, she spent much of her time working alongside her father on the farm. She learned to appreciate driving her favorite Allis-Chalmers tractor.
Her long dark hair and pretty purple dress caught the eye of John Zomer Sr. of Armour, South Dakota. On her 20th birthday they were united in marriage at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They made their home at rural Armour for 7 years before relocating to Iowa, where they lived in Sioux and Lyon County. They farmed near George, Iowa for 28 years where she was a vital part of the dairy operation. In the 1980's during the recession, Sophia passed her CNA exam and worked at local long term care facilities in Rock Valley and Rock Rapids. In 1995, they had a farm sale and moved to an acreage near Larchwood, Iowa. Sophia then worked at Sioux Valley(later changed to Sanford Health) as a CNA. She retired at the age of 70.
In 2008, they moved to Sioux Center where they continued to reside. Sophia was a lifelong member of the Netherlands Reformed Church. She showed her kindness and ministry to others by providing food to her family, friends, and church family in times of need. She donated many pies to the NRC Dorcas Society bake sale. She had a strong work ethic which she instilled in her children. Her family recalls the many hours spent preparing and canning garden produce, baking, cooking, sewing and ironing. In her retirement, she enjoyed crocheting afghans and baby blankets for her family. Every winter a card table was set up in the house where she enjoyed working on puzzles. After suffering from a severe ischemic stroke, Sophia passed away on July 28, 2022 in her home, surrounded by family.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Zomer and children Henry(Roxy) of Conrad, Montana; Annette (Kip) Maggert of Matlock, Iowa.; Connie(Gywen)Hoogendoorn of Bradenton, Florida; John(Stacy) of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Lorinda"Sue" (Randy) Techen of Sheldon, Iowa; Dale(Myra) of Harrisburg, South Dakota; Kathy(Doug) Van Beek of Inwood, Iowa.; Calvin(Amber) of Rock Valley, Iowa; Jolene(Walt)VanderWaal of Orange City, Iowa.; 39 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sister, Hilda(Jake)Van Voorst and sisters-in-law, Harriet Roskam and Bea Roskam-Nydam; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
