Obituary of Louis
Louis was born the son of Peter & Johanna Van Roekel Douma on a farm near Chandler in Fenton Township. He was baptized & professed his faith in Chandler Reformed Church and attended Chandler Public Schools, graduating in 1950. Louis then attended Northwestern College in Orange City, IA for one year, before returning to farm with his father. In March of 1953 he enlisted in the US Army and served at Ft. Hood, TX until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then returned to the Chandler area.

On August 14, 1953, Louis married Sadie Overman at the original Chandler Reformed Church. They made their home on a farm east of Lake Wilson for a year before moving to a farm a mile south of Chandler, where they remained until 2007 when they moved into Chandler. A farmer his whole life, Louis did a lot of custom farm work and also held various other jobs over the years as a substitute rural carrier for the Post Office, sold seed corn, and worked with Lolkus Plumbing & Heating for many years.

Louis was active in both his church & community. He was a life-long member of the Chandler Reformed Church where he served as assistant superintendent of the Sunday School program, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. In the community he served on the Chandler Public School Board, board member of ASC for many years, Chandler Memorial Cemetery Sextant, a member of Chandler American Legion Post #338 & held serveral different officer positions on the Kenwood RV Park Association Board. He and Sadie also enjoyed wintering in LaFeria, TX for thirteen years. On March 13, Louis became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton.

Louis & Sadie were the parents of Julie Hartle, Steven Douma, David Gdouma, & Donald Douma. Louis' siblings include Kathleen Dysthe, Beverly Brouwer, & Jeanne Scott.

A memorial service was held at the Chandler Reformed Church, Rev. David Poppen officiating.

Obituary of Sadie Marie
Sadie Marie Douma was born on April 1, 1932 to Steve and Mary (Bilsland) Overman in Primghar, IA. She was their only child, and as a family they moved a lot. They lived in various cities in Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon and California, before settling in Chandler, MN. During those years, Sadie attended 14 different schools and graduated from the Chandler High School in 1951.

On August 14, 1953 Sadie and Louis Douma were married in the original Chandler Reformed Church. Louis served in the army and was stationed at Fort Hood, TX, where their oldest son, Steve, was born. After his discharge in 1955, they moved to a farm east of Lake Wilson for a year, before moving to their home a mile south of Chandler. In 2007, Sadie and Louis moved into Chandler. Louis died on March 10, 2010. Sadie remained in her home until 2014, when she became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center, where she lived until she died on March 31, 2020.

For a few years, Sadie worked part-time as a cleaning staff at Huisken Meat Center in Chandler. Sadie enjoyed crafts, but especially enjoyed crocheting, sewing and ceramics. She also enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles. They enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends. Sadie and Louis wintered in LaFeria, TX for thirteen years. She was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church and Chandler American Legion Auxilliary.

Sadie is survived by three sons, Steve "Red" Douma, Parkers Prairie, MN, Dave Douma, Chandler, MN and Don (Vickie) Douma, Chandler, MN; and daughter, Julie (Scott) Hartle, Chandler; nine grandchildren Brad Douma, Brandon (Robin) Douma, Brock (Nika) Douma; Ariana Duin; Jennifer (Erwin) Cambara, Jeff Douma; Meghan (Philip) Soulek, Mitch (Brittani Roskamp) Hartle and Eli Ackerman and nine great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Robert) Dysthe, Slayton, MN and Beverly Brouwer, Sheldon, IA, and one brother-in-law, Doug Scott, Hackensack, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis, brother-in-law Dennis Brouwer and sister-in-law Jeanne Scott.
